Root Status to Official 2.1 Update from Sprint

I haven't seen any threads regarding the status of rooting the new 2.1 update that some of may have flashed not knowing we were going to have to re-root our phones including myself being and android newb  , but some guys at xda are working pretty hard on figuring this out which from what I understand has been a very difficult task. Anyways here's the thread if you want to check it out or give any support to the cause: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684262

If you were rooted prior to installing the official RUU, here is how you get back to root status: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-...g-2-1-ruu.html

It depends on which leak you flashed... if you flashed the first leak you are screwed..

Re: 2.1 rooted

Hate to tell you but no one has been able to root the new official 2.1 update yet. They're working pretty hard on it but it looks like htc or sprint really didn't want us rooting our phones so they made it next to impossible. But impossibles been done before. Check out this thread for more info http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=122851

Nah you'll be fine with the wifi tether. I use it all the time sometimes around 7-8 gb per month and I never get charged. Sprint says for 3G you have a 5gb limit but I haven't seen them charge yet.

Re: Root Status to Official 2.1 Update from Sprint

I can't get the method to work, but it is a problem on my side I am sure. I can't get past the ADB step, there is nothing listed. I get the ADB is out of date... HTC Sync seemed to install just fine but I can not sync my phone. I can see the phone when I plug it in via usb to swap files on the SD card but I can not get HTC Sync to recognize my phone. I have restarted both several times, and just no luck. I have had the phone search for HTC Sync but it doesn't find it. Anyone have any suggestions? I just want root my phone and it seems that I can not do it without HTC Sync. If this is in the wrong place, sorry. I thought it was related since it is stopping me from rooting.

For those who rooted the official 2.1 ROM, which custom have you gone with and why?

FYI... I had gone from a custom ROM on a WinMo HTC Touch to the Hero and had put off rooting until the ROMs were based on the official 2.1 version.

I really liked the PureHero roms. Especially 1.0. It's not based on the official release however. I've sold both my heros so I can't be of more help than that.

Personally in my opinion Fresh 2.1.2 was very stable, responsive and had the best battery life, but flashing different roms from different chefs is the only way your going to find out which you like better. There's not to many chefs on here for the Hero but there's a lot of links of roms that people like in the Upgrades section that will take you to different chefs on XDA- Developers. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the info, i am using Fresh 1.1, i did all the 2.1 ROMs but had the audio problems, even after the 'fixes' Did you have any of those with fresh 2.1.2? If so i might get the courage to flash again LOL
Thanks for input

Re: Root Status to Official 2.1 Update from Sprint

I never had audio problems on the actual phone. My problem was with how the hero is finicky with different stereo bluetooth headsets. My Altec Lansings will break up all the time but the Jabra Halo's work great. I think that problem is in the hardware not the Roms. So yeah you coming from fresh 1.1, there's been huge improvements since then and I don't think you'll be disappointed

Re: Root Status to Official 2.1 Update from Sprint

If you are going to download the official 2.1 Sprint rom, don't get the one ending in .6 (the current download from the Sprint/HTC site). That closed up the root exploit. Get the one ending in .5. Links to the .5 2.1 update can be found on XDA.

I think you can run the .5 ruu even after you have run the .6 ruu, but I'm not sure.

Re: Root Status to Official 2.1 Update from Sprint

Yes, you can run the .5 RUU if you already ran the .6 RUU. We did that on my friend's hero and it reverted to .5 with no problems.

That was an interesting night. My laptop rooted 3 heros that night, and had to redo 1 twice because my friend thought he was smarter tham the guys at xda. He learned his lesson. LOL

Hey Guys... haven't had time to mess with this, but I did the update to the .6 ruu and then found this thread. Is there an easy way of going back to the .5 so I can get root back?

Check post # 2 for the download mirrors for the .5 version.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572

Also, post 1 describes how to root, if you don't use the unrevoked method (this is the old unrevoked method, using adb commands).

This is easy enough. I still have the .5 ruu floating around on my desktop... I'll just find some time to do it.

Thanks!
