every ROM "how to" says place zip folder on root of sd card. I have no idead what commands to type in to do this. I thought i did, but after doing data wipe then flash from sd card, i keep getting no zip file found. Please help.

Root of SD card basically means just put the file onto the SD Card, not within any folders or anything. There are no commands to type in.

You have to make a backup first before you can restore, do you know how to do that? It is all in recovery.

got the back up figured out and it worked.

As far as the zip file goes are u saying i can just copy and paste onto sd card? no adb push stuff? What if i allready pushed from sdk/tools? i did C:\Android_stuff\android-sdk-windows\tools adb push "ROM".zip (then rebooted) is this going to be a problem? i did notice i forgot to type \sd card

You will have to wait for someone who uses the sdk tools. I don't do anything that way. Yes I am saying just copy it onto your card, and don't put it into any folders.

This was done on my G1, but the process is identical.
