Stolen hero - any ideas?

My phone was stolen from our clubhouse at my apartment today and when I went to the sprint store to see what they could do about it I was told it would be $100 through Asurion to get it replaced. I didn't even pay $100 when I bought the phone when it first came out. Any idea's how to get it replaced for free or how to use that to my advantage to get the EVO when it comes out?

$100 is a lot better than the 350-400 dollars it costs to buy one retail. Also, it's not their fault you got it stolen, and they won't give you anything for free. The insurance is done through a third party company.

???

hows it his fault some jackass stole his phone? OP call sprint and raise some hell until you get a new one, trust me it works! the $100 you pay for a used "refurb" is not worth it at all. i also beileve for the future id look on the market, they have a tracking device app that could of been very useful for you to use in case it gets stolen.

Thanks for the input. I'll see if I can at least get a free refurb as a replacement, paying for one isn't worth it when there's a new better phone (EVO) coming out in the next few months.

Well I wasn't mugged. I just assumed that someone would have the decency to turn my phone in if they found it. I only walked away for maybe 10 minutes and when I got back it was gone.

take a look at these:

http://www.antidroidtheft.com/
http://android.theftaware.com/

and my favorite:
http://techpp.com/2010/01/20/track-r...ia-wavesecure/

and as the others have already stated in this thread insurance is there for this reason, with any insurance claim you have a deductible that has to be payed and $100 is the deductible for that. i dont see how it is sprint fault that your phone got stolen, you have to remember they are a company that is out to make money like the rest of them and they offer this insurance to you through asurion to give you the consumer extra coverage and to help you from having to pay 500 bucks for a new phone in an instance like this compared to to the 100 through asurion.

hope the links help you for future reference...

Thanks for the apps. I wish I had previously installed one of those on my phone. Sprint said the only way they can track where my phone is by paying $9.99 a month for the family location option. Is there anyway I can still wipe my data without having one of those programs installed?

Family locator has a 15 day free trial, just cnc within 2 weeks. As long as the phone is on and in coverage it will show on the map. Good luck !
