What do you mean? Are you trying to DL the necessary files? :)

In order to root a hero you need a desktop or laptop to do it. Yes you can tether your TP2 to your computer so you can download the necessary files. But I'm pretty sure you can't tether the hero to your tp2 (even if you are using it as a wifi router). I've used my hero as a wifi hotspot and wasnt able to get my pre or tp2 to pick up its signal (my laptop and friends ipod touch pick it up just fine). And I've used my tp2 as a wifi hotspot and wasn't able to tether my pre or hero either. Anyone know why this is?

yup for one and I am guessing it will take forever! Do I have to have internet access when I am rooting it?
This is way harder than unlocking and flashing custom roms to my tp2!!

No. You just need the files and CMD on your PC.

sweet thanks jethro! Dang why does it have to be so darn complicated lol?!
Oh one other question...I dont think the kid is gonna be doing a lot of flashing so I don't suppose I can do it the easier ways? And is this AndroidSDK folder part of what I will be dl?

Dont worry about the thanks button. Just root that beauty.

Wait! it's linking to the unlocker site. Here is the right one.

It's the same but the XDA is more detailed.
