Sprint hero pocket dialing

I have had my hero for a few months and love everything about the phone except it consistenly likes to pocket dial. First though was maybe the rom I was using is glitching but the issue has happened with 3 different roms. I always make sure to hit the end button and turn the screen off before placing it back in my pocket. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and if there is maybe a good fix such as an alternative lock screen. Any input is appreciated

Re: Sprint hero pocket dialing

my touch pro did that all the time. i just put a simple pin number lock on it. whenever i got a txt or call it woke up my screen. u can also use the throttle lock...but lots of ppl have brought their phone in with password attempts exceeded and dont remember their gmail pw so we have to hard reset...so make sure you know your log in and pw before applying.

While this has never happened to me, I have a lock pattern set that needs to be traced before I can get into my phone. It's really easy to setup, and that should fix your issue.

What I've found out is if you hit the Menu button the screen comes up locked, hit it again and the screen unlocks, without swiping down. Then the call button is fair game for the pocket call.

That seems like a lot of steps to go through for the Hero to be pocket dialing consistently though. Either there's something wrong the Hero's buttons, or the OP wears the tightest pants ever.

I am so glad I am not the only one. Today my phone was sitting on my desk in sleep mode and it beeped and I heard muffled ringing. It called my boss... This is the second time it has done that. It called my friend while sitting on the passenger seat of my car. What is going on? I took it in to get looked at and sprint just said well we cant recreate the problem, but we can send it in to be looked at... Uh well, it just magically makes phone calls so I am pretty sure there is no way to duplicate it. I set the pass code tonight and did a factory reset to see if that helps or not. I love my phone but this is crazy.

Droid users are/were experiencing the same thing. Are you using an aftermarket charger? That's what was causing the issue with the droid. Not sure why it happens, but just something to throw out there.

Not really, easy to double tap the menu button. From there it's easy. I haven't pocket called anyone, that I know of, but it's easy to do.

Same here. It goes nuts for about an hour or so.

"But there is more to this story. A number of DROID owners using the Motorola supplied charger are complaining about their beloved handset doing things on its own. Verizon has been good so far in replacing these runaway units, but no one can give a precise explanation why it happens. Some are blaming static electricity while others point to some kind of software bug. For some, even a Master Reset would not help."

No precise explanation...number of users using supplied charger experiencing same issues...that being said the after market charger is alleged to be the culprit...not factually the proven issue. Be careful to read, not just skim articles and then regurgetate semi-inaccurate information.

He was simply implying that aftermarket chargers have been known to be culprits, not that it was the only charging source that causes problems. He was just trying to weed out possible causes.

i understand just thought maybe the way it was worded was misleading and ppl might think that for sure would fix their problem. glad to have the link posted for said article.

When I use a battery charger as a charger on my phone the screen starts going crazy. I can't long press any keys on the SW KB, I can't press certain numbers, and I have trouble getting certain taps to register. It actually does cause my phone problems, so I do know that it happens.

You know what the crazy thing is, I had to get one of those "Go" phone things about a year ago. You know, a prepaid cell. Well it charged via USB so when I replaced my Diamond I decided to try and use it with it. It worked just fine. The cord is skinnier than the standard HTC charger and probably another foot longer. I currently use it with my Hero just for the fact that it is long enough to reach the middle of the couch so I dont have to sit all the way on the edge. It never causes screen problems for me. Just weird.

For all the people that said tight pants. I always wear baggy pants. I was wondering if there is an alternative lockscreen available like the droids where you have to trace a pattern on the screen instead of just dragging it down to see if that fixes it.

Just played around with the settings and found the pattern to unlock option. awesome.

Settings/Security/Require Pattern

BEWARE:

If u use the pattern lock aka throttle lock...

10 failed attempts will lock ur phone. The ONLY way to unlock it is ur google name and pw. Make sure u know this information before installing! Especially if u have a nosey gf! If you have not set up a google name and pw or do not remember it the only way to use ur phone again is a button combo reset or reflash. U will lose any information not stored on ur sd card!

FAIR WARNING!
KEEP UR USERNAME AND PASSWORD IN A SAFE PLACE!

i.e. wallet, purse, jewelry box, email to an alternate email account

Your google name/pw is just the login information for your gmail account you signed in on the phone, correct?

yes...same as the market login too. i find that since people dont ever have to type it bc the phone stays logged in...few remeber what it is. :)

I have taken my phone out of my pocket and found it unlocked and in one of my home screen apps before. Same odds as pocket dialing I guess.

No it isn't. Look up some of the problems people have had, the gmail login doesn't work. Someone said that putting in your full gmail, including @gmail.com and using null for the password will fix it, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

if u remember it correctly and enter it correctly i have seen it work. when entered correctly it asks you what you would like your new password to be.

...and yes they are the same.

If you have this ability I need you to come fix my buddy's phone. Because he is entering everything correctly, yet it isn't working.

Anything that goes into my pants pockets gets obliterated pretty much instantly. One pocket has 2 leathermans and some weird tool i got from geocaching, and the other has 2 metal Zebra pens a sharpie and occasionally my keys. It's like a phone death trap.
