How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
I have searched but cannot find the answer, perhaps I am using the wrong term. My phone is already flashed and running Fresh ROM 1.1 I was trying to boot into recovery by holding HOME/Power buttons at same time so I could follow the step by step instructions to get apps2sd working. For some reason it is bringing up a screen that my only option is to clear user data. I said no a few times and finally said yes hoping it would let me go to the next screen. Now all my data is gone including the apps that I would use to flash to the backup. I guess I should just download a file manager again and retrace my steps that I did to root the phone to begin with but I figured there is an easier solution and I want to know why it is not booting into recovery when I hold HOME/Power buttons.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
also, when i rooted my phone i used the method on Unlockr website for "one click rooting". I thought this to be the most up to date way to do it. It worked good, but it doesnt explain how to get into the abd shell (I'm assuming it does nto have it) so I can follow the tips and tricks section that says to go into abd shell. Because of the method I used, is there still a way to get into the shell?

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
An easy way to tell if you rooted correctly is to download an app from the market that requires root access.. If it installs and works your rooted.. (Drocap2 is an app that requires root)

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
I guess it is working, I downloaded drocap and have take 3 screen shots and viewed them in Linda file manager. I have tried reflashing the original file so the phone would go back to how it was right after flashing the rom but it will not let me flash it again. Will it work if I change the name of the file I am trying to flash?

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
also, if it is rooted correctly, why does holding home/power only take me to a cleardata screen?

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
I could be wrong, I'm still pretty new to the Hero myself. But did you happen to put the custom recovery image on your phone? there should be a file title " recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2 " on your SD card. I believe that is what would give you more options when booting into recovery mode.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
It is not explained very clearly but i found it somewhere, if you press and hold home directly after selecting not to erase data it will get you there.
it is easier to press and hold volume down instead of home when starting up though. |
Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
Now I'm making some progress. I booted by holding volume down instead of the Home key and the screen is a little different and allowed me into recovery. Now I am going to reflash the recovery file and see what happens.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
Good luck, I have had the best results with modacco 2.2 and gumbo 3.1 kernal.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
do you have 1.5.2 recovery or the 1.23 or something recovery?

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
I have the recovery-ra-heroc-v1.5.2.img or something close to that.
Before flashing the image above, a backup was created. I've been trying to restore that backup, any idea how to do it? I went into flashrec and typed in the name of the backup recovery file but it says cannot do command. I've got the phone working again but I am wanting to load a restore file so all of my settings will be back. |
Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
In the recovery program there should be a nandroid selection, in there should be a restore option.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
You probably didn't do a backup without the recovery. I'm just saying.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
I think you are right. I'm such a nub, I thought nandroid was a program that I had to download. Now I've gone through this a second time I see where I should have created the nand backup from the recovery menu. The only backup I did was at the flashrec screen before flashing fresh. I was a little confused at the time because I was following steps from here and the one click step. Well, at least my phone is working and not bricked.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
Also, adb works when the phone is one and, in fact, is more limited when the phone is in recovery mode. The adb shell is just a linux command line accessed through the windows command line, a la ssh.

Re: How Do You Boot Into Recovery??
How do I access the command line considering I used the one click root?
