Just took the plunge...Touch Pro to Hero
My Hero is currently sitting at my house (impatiently) waiting for me to arrive home from work...what can I do in preperation to make the importing of my contacts/text messages as seamless as possible tonight? Will PPCPIM backup work with the Hero? Also, what format do my ringers/text messaging sounds need to be in for the Hero to recognize them?
Thanks guys. |
Re: Just took the plunge...Touch Pro to Hero
This is what I would do
1. If you don't have a gmail account, get one, this will make your transition of your contacts much smoother. You can sync them with Gmail, hopefully from your TP to your Hero. 2. Since it's a new phone, I'd start SMS from scratch, is it really important to back up your existing SMS on your TP? I don't think that the PIMbackup would work since it's a WM product. It's possible that there's a cross-platform program for that I did a "Let Me Google The For You" here's the results http://tinyurl.com/yej7pmt |

On a side note, the wifey got home late from work (UPS left the package with our office manager, office is now closed) so I will have to wait until tomorrow morning before I can play with the Hero...:( |

Look up sprite migrate . It's still in free beta form. and worked like a charm.

I was lucky, I sync with exchange from work so that's where all my contacts were, I didn't need to back up my SMS so I wasn't worried about :) |
Re: Just took the plunge...Touch Pro to Hero
Have either one of you purchased a desktop charger yet? I'm just thinking of all the TouchPro accessories I'm going to need to replace...

Re: Just took the plunge...Touch Pro to Hero
As for your ringtones, I too came from WM (Diamond) and it was a couple days before I figured out how to put them on the Hero's SD card where it would allow me to select them from the settings menu. So in effort to save you some time and stress:
On the SD card root create the following folder paths and from what Ive expierienced it is case sensitive. Create a folder on the root named "media" media> Inside "media" create a folder named "audio" media>audio Inside "audio" create three more folders named "ringtones", "notifications", & "alarms" media>audio>ringtones media>audio>notifications media>audio>alarms Then just put your ringtones in the ringtones folder, your notification sounds in the notifications folder (text, IM, email alerts, etc.) And put any sounds you may want to use as an alarm tone for the alarm clock in the alarms folder. Hope this saves you some time! |
Re: Just took the plunge...Touch Pro to Hero
simply sync your contacts with your existing gmail account. gmail will walk you right thru that. then once you activate and are setting up your hero it will make you sign into your gmail account and automatically sync your existing contacts.
i came from the touch pro to the pre then to the hero. and gmail made life easy |

Yeah, from the short amount of time I played with the phone this morning it seems pretty easy to navigate and setup. I'm in the process of updating all my Gmail contacts to make it that much easier to import on the next upgrade. The only gripe I have was that I was forced to upgrade plans, but, with the discount it only amounted to around $20 more for everything data for both lines now instead of just mine...so, I guess the wife will be happy using my TouchPro until her contract is up. :) |

This phone is sick boys...I can't believe how awesome it is...and I thought I loved my Touch Pro. :)
One quick question...I downloaded an attachment from Gmail...where the hell did it go?! haha. |
