only problem i've had is mms being delayed 4.5 hrs, maybe the problems are related? issues with sprint's mms server?

Someone I know is having the not downloading issue with his hero. I have tried flashing a new rom, deleting all text messages and rebooting, resending numerous times, etc...

Guess its wipe time.

Same with the guy I know. I am in the same area as him though and I am not having this trouble.

Re: mms problems

I hope their is an easier fix than a hard reset. If I hard reset is there a list somewhere of all the apps I have downloaded? Will I be able to re download all apps that I paid for without issue?

Re: mms problems

Get titanium backup. Or just sign as usual and they will all be back in your market as free, you just have to redownload. If you're using A2SD2 it won't delete them at all.

Re: mms problems

I restarted the phone a couple of times and it seems to be working now. Glad I dont need to hard reset because I had a hell of a time rooting. County can attest to that.

I'm a Sprint Rep. With my own hero I started having this problem two days ago. I've been to repair centers and on the phone with tech support for about two hours. All this to avoid wiping my phone; well I had no luck.

Things they tried with no results:
1. Send a picture mail to myself
2. Re-program the Hero (MSID)
3. Make sure wi-fi is off
4. Go into settings and select auto-retrieval
5. Finally the rep said, "Is this your phone?" My answer yes, then he says so you know your google account log-in. I reply yes, and then the dreadful news comes. "Would you have a problem wiping your device?"

Time to hang up...lol

Wipe it. If it fixes it let me know. Here is how you can wipe without a problem...

Make a nandroid backup.
Wipe.
Skip login stuff.
Send an mms to yourself.
Find out if it works then do a nandroid restore.
If I had my buddy's phone I'd try this.

Just cause I am weary about shit, if I nandroid backup and hard reset, will I have to root again? Or just restore and be back to where I am right now?

Yea, you have to take smaller pics to send from the Hero. This is a carrier limit not a Hero limit. Get Handcent, it will readjust them for you.

Nandroid is a backup program that runs on the recovery image. If you are rooted you have it. Since you are asking, you aren't rooted. If you don't want to root I don't know what to say. Maybe new phone if hard reset doesn't fix.

Haha no, hard reset only puts you back to what your phone looks like after a fresh flash. You won't have programs, but you will be rooted and with whatever rom you have on it. If you do a restore it will take you back to exactly when the backup happened, so if it doesn't fix it you can do that.

Actually email works better for me because I seem to get that in real time. My SMS however is hit or miss. So while its nice to have MMS I don't mind the email option haha.

I just dig that face that there isn't really a size limit that affects pictures at all. I just can't email mp3's and such.

You can't get them from astro and email them? Or you mean you can't download if you do?

If I had my buddy's phone I'd try this.

I had this issue two weeks ago and went through every forum on the net looking for an answer. I posted numerous long winded angry posts on the sprint community boards about it and I tried every suggestion out there given by anyone who offered one up.

It finally came down to I had to wipe and start over.

Bad news is, that sucks to start all over.
Good news is, it worked.

I have still yet to figure out why the problem came up. Phone was fine one day and the next I had the issue. Only one thing comes to mind as possible cause was when I tried to install a 3rd party non market app, it stopped halfway through install and said not enough memory. Not sure if that led to the issue or not. I knew there was an issue with the phone if you reached an out of memory point but that was supposed to have been fixed on the last MR.

I was also told that Sprint was aware of this MMS issue and has instructed service centers NOT to replace the phone because it is an HTC issue and it would just happen again.

Re: mms problems

The hard reset was a LOT easier than I expected. After about 45 mins I have the phone pretty much the way I had it. Now, do I have to re apply that overclocking kernel from the boot menu? I redownloaded setcpu already.

Oh yea, getting mms pics fine now.

Good. No the kernel should be fine, I think. Guess it couldn't hurt. If setcpu works then the kernel stayed.

Glad it worked.
