Trying to playback video on Hero
Ok.....So I may be stupid, but I cannot for the life of me, figure out a setting in which to playback video on my Hero.
I've tried a bunch of different bitrates using different converters (all of this info of which I've found through various forums and posts of people who claim they've successfully converted video to play on their Hero) and I can't get anything to work. The video will start to play, but about 4 or 5 seconds in, the video freezes while the audio continues on. I have read and tried the "Unofficial Movie Thread" tips from this forum as well and can't get it to work. Am I missing a setting or something? I have no problems streaming Sprint TV or YouTube videos, it's just stuff from my SD card. Could that be the problem? Is the card just not able to process it that quickly? I have a hard time believing that because I've tried some pretty low quality settings to no avail. Also, and this is a little off of this topic, but I figured I'd give it a shot. For anyone using Gmote, have you been able to successfully stream video from your PC to your phone? Gmote claims that it can support mp4 streaming, but I've yet to have any luck. Any help is always appreciated. |
Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
Best video format and properties for HTC Hero:
Container = .MP4 Encoder = h.264 Frame rate = 23.976(NTSC) or 29.97(PAL)? Resolution = 480 x 320 Video bitrate = 500-1000 kbps Audio encoder = AAC Audio bitrate = 320 kbps You can use Aimersoft Media Converter to customize the output video format, quality and size. Cheers! |
Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
^^^^ agree with everything above but one caveat...use the same fps / Frame Rate as the original video.
Also for free easy video converters there is "Any Video Converter", Super C, and Media Coder. Link to Media coder is down at the moment... I use Any Video Converter. |
Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
This problem occurs on my phone if I have opened a few apps but have not rebooted. I am not sure what is causing it but if I reboot/power off and then on I am able to play video normal again. Do you use any kind of task manager?

Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
your prbly choking your self. do u have a task program to kill apps that are open so that way you dont keep them up in the backround and kill your processor? i personally use taskiller. do a fresh reboot with that installed and see whats runnin after you let it finish the startup. once thats done set tk to ignore all those processes. then you can have a clean and open os all the time

Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
I posted this on another forum but I will post it here as well in case you don't follow that one. After months of no issues I started have the same problem and was usually cleared by a reboot. I have since found that the culprit for me was the weatherbug widget in my home screen. Do you have any widgets on your home screens that are constantly running in the background(i.e. battery indicators, weather, etc.)? If so, remove them and reboot and see if that fixes your problem. I think there was something that changed in the update from sprint that is causing this. I didn't not have this issue before and I was running 2 weather widgets and a battery indicator before.

Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
ElAguila,
Thank you for this post. The info on Weatherbug explains my issue I have been seeing. The phone would lag out on everything and I reboot it. Takes about 2 days and then needs a cleaning. Faldiin |
Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
I think that the weatherbug widget bleeds memory. When I first installed weatherbug I did not have that issue. After the last weatherbug update I did. I am trying to contact their support. In the meantime I have replaced as many widgets as I could with program shortcuts and things are much better.

Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
I am having the same issue. Before I flashed Fresh1.0, on the stock rom I had no problem viewing videos, now no metter what site I go to, I can't view any video. I get a message saying Media File Type Not Supported.
Any help would be great! I may go back to another Rom or even stock if I keep getting this problem.... TIA |
Re: Trying to playback video on Hero
Can anyone still using stock rom verify that you can watch youtube video's in High Quality?
