Home Button Not Working

I went to the Sprint store this morning and swapped out my phone because the Home button would randomly stop working and had the dust in the screen. Soft resets would temporarily fix the issue but it would come back randomly. So, I got my new Hero this morning, new battery and everything. I haven't put it on the charger and still letting it run off the charge that was on it, I haven't changed any settings on the phone, only signed into my Google account and synced Calendar and Email. I installed from the Market: Google Voice, Astro File Manager, Movies, Facebook for Android, Handcent SMS, & Skydeck.

Now, just 10-15 mins ago, my Home button stopped working...

Anyone else with this issue or any ideas? I was thinking of doing a hard reset...but I just got this phone from the box this morning...

Re: Home Button Not Working

I am on my second Hero for the same exact reason! I don't know what causes it but my home and i believe search button stopped working on mine.

Got it replaces and haven't had a problem since. I honestly think it has to do with handcent for some reason when it has that pop up notification my phone would bog out and then the home button wouldn't work. Just a wild guess from my experience but probably wrong :X

Hopefully you can figure it out.

I'll try it out and see what happens. Have you stopped using Handcent on your second phone? That was the first app I installed after coming back from the Sprint store.

Re: Home Button Not Working

I'd love to see the debug log from when your home button isn't working. That will tell you if it's hardware or software. If you have the issue again then PM me.

Can you send the instructions on how to get the debug log, that way I'll just send that over right away if it happens again.

The easiest way would be to install an app from the market called log collector. Whenever you have the issue just hit your home button like 10 times. Then open log collector and it will allow you to email your log. Go ahead and email it to yourself first because it will contain some personal information like phone numbers. Then just copy the last 50-100 lines and PM me and I'll give you my email.

Re: Home Button Not Working

Hey hey. I got your email. It doesn't tell me too much other than I can tell you that your button itself is working just fine.

Code:
12-21 18:53:58.453 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=1
12-21 18:53:58.783 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=0
12-21 18:53:59.103 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=1
12-21 18:53:59.673 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=0
12-21 18:53:59.993 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=1
12-21 18:54:00.753 D/KeyInputQueue( 75): DebugMonitor keycode=0 value=0
That is you pushing the button. So it does work. The actual error that seems to show your problem is:

Code:
W/KeyCharacterMap( 122): Bad keycharmap - filesize=32
The only thing I can find anywhere around it that may show the cause of your corrupted character map is this:

Code:
I/ActivityManager( 75): Stopping service: com.skydeck/.service.ContactLookupService
I googled it and skydeck seems to be some type of online cell phone backup program? Is that something you are using? The only thing I can say is that once the character map issue started in the log, that service got stopped. I hope that helps you.

Re: Home Button Not Working

Yeah, I have Skydeck running as sort of a backup to Google for my contacts. I used it for WinMo and BlackBerry so I just started using it here as well. I'll stop using it for a while and see how that works, but at least it's good news that the hardware itself is fine.

Thanks!
