Linux (Ubuntu) Vs. WiFi Tether for Root Users
 

Ok I've gotten this to work with the Windows 7 side of my Eee quite beautifully. However on Ubuntu 8.04 I can see the "G1 Tether" just fine, however it will just hang & fail to connect upon selection.

Whats wrong here, anyone claiming success with this combination?

Note: FYI I'm dual booting, so its the same laptop.

Didn't want to try Ubuntu 9.1? I only have that and haven't tried running wifi tether yet, but I will try later and see.

I'm running a gOS 3.1 Gadgets, its based on Ubuntu 8.04. Wish they would update to a newer LTS version.

Its much like a Google OS. :mrgreen:

I believe 8.10 and on have some nifty built in services for tethering working out of the box. I have not tried with the Hero yet. However since you are tethering via wifi I suppose it should not matter.

Yeah, unfortunately my Ubuntu discriminates against the signal. I wish I could wire tether.

I'm thinking that you're version of linux doesn't support ad-hoc wifi connections. I guess you're stuck tweeting from the phone itself ;)

I was wrong. I am tethering right now with Ubuntu and WiFi Tether.

`I have not rooted yet boot plan on doing it soon. I was wondering if it was possible that users who don't have it working could try replacing the network manager with WICD and seeing if it worked.

I had AC enabled. When I turned that off, I was golden. Works like a charm.
