why not just tell t-mobile you're going overseas and need the unlock code?

I bought on the streets $50 new in a hard plastic case & i don't want to get in trouble. please advise. can i contact HTC for unlock?

You have to have a t-mobile account that is in good standing and active for a minimum of 90 days before t-mobile will give you an unlock code. The HSPL unlocks do not sim unlock the phone to make it usable on AT&T, it removes the lock that keeps custom rom's from being loaded. You either need to pay to have it unlocked somewhere or have t-mobile give you the code.
