I'm looking to buy the HD2 without the 2 year contract.

Excuse my ignorance about this, but will the GPS still work without the phone service? I know it's hardware, but does it require the T-Mobile satellite service for the GPS to work?

You can always purchase a GPS Software to run off the SD card (such as TomTom, Garmin, etc) and a Data connection will not be required.

The gps won't be as quick to get a initial lock though.

Ig8 works great on hd2
