How can I root a HTC Evo for a friend without the serial number?
 

His phone is an Assurian replacement and there is no serial number listed under the battery. It said on the rooting instructions that I would need it. Am I just missing that the meid is actually the serial number or something? Is there an easy way for me to get this information so that I can do it? Thanks all!

Also he leaves town in 2 hours (20 hour drive home) so any help would be super helpful.

Don't know why it wouldn't be their, but even if it's not maybe you could call Sprint and get it, well he would have to call, but they should give it to him.

I doubt he got a replacement that had 2.2 on it so that he could use Unrevoked, I would bet money that it came with 2.3 on it, which means he has to use Revolutionary. If it was me I would use the chat feature to ask for the serial number of the phone as those guys are pretty easy to work with compared to sitting on the phone with someone, just my opinion though.

Can you not go to Settings/about phone/status to view the serial number?

If you root with revolutionary, your serial is displayed when you plug it in. It should read something like HT0?????
