Im not 100 percent sure if its the same for the original evo but its worth a shot
under setting\power make sure fastboot is turned off then turn the phone off power it back on by holding the vol down and power at the same time |

Yeah, my son got a replacement Evo that had Gingerbread on it, and fast boot was enabled, that messes things up, plus makes it where you can't get into bootloader

yes I have read that one but I downgraded to 2.1 to c if it would be easer that way, Im still having trouble entering recovery mode, it just shows a red exclamation mark the whole time...

If you downgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.1 then you must have been rooted, so what did you do that could have messed something up? If I was you I would upgrade and use revolutionary to root and install CWM and then change to RA.

Then why didn't you just come out and say that instead of typing up 3 or 4 posts on "did you read this" "did you watch this" "what hboot do you have", lets not play this game and get the thread off subject more than it is.
