My phone is rooted, but with sprint stock ROM. Can I do a system update directly from the phone, and am I going to lose my root? Or I have to wait for a custom ROM?

DAMMIT!!! Updated fine, but the Netflix thing is really a pisser. Called Netflix and they are already working on a proper update for Gingerbread in general.

yes as said before you'll lose root if you use the ota from sprint,
so either DL rooted stock or wait for you favorite chef to cook up a updated version of their rom

Alright - so I've done the update, and here's my thoughts on this Gingerbread release:

The Good: Smoother animations

The Bad: Netflix not working, No visible improvements to HTC Sense (still stuck with what we had before, not the new Sense that other phones have), not a single new live or regular wallpaper

Other noticeable changes: Softer, smaller GMAIL and Market notification icons. In Applications, I see something called FAST BOOT (description says: "Turn off to use some Market apps" and it is checked by default). Also a feature called Internet Calling.. need to find more about this.

Overall - not terribly impressed. I was really hoping for more/newer visual enhancements (not just improvements to performance)

Yeah... I was really excited to do this... But I'm waiting till they get that Netflix issue resolved. I can't leave my kids hanging... "Dad... What do you mean no more Cat in the hat??? LOL.
