@gten

are you telling me that 20 - 30 mbps is possible on wimax? I always felt like sprint was not allowing the full potential (my upload speed has never been passed 1.2mb on 4g)... why dont they turn it up?

Its not a disappointment..its actually a very good technology that has been working well throughout the world..the biggest problem aside from roll out is that sprint decided to use only 10mhz of spectrum (retrospect to verizon going 20mhz and on a better 700mhz band)..Sprint is still keeping 20mhz more in the spectrum most likely for LTE use..If they would have went all in with 30mhz you'd probably see 20-30mb/sec dlds speeds (as long as their hubs support that much)

The Technology might be good, but the implementation is awful. On the phone and from Sprint (or clearwire whatever)

My WiMax takes forever to turn on and register. Also, it keeps acquiring and losing the signal. I live in Los Angeles, you figure in this major market it would work reasonably well.

Now when I do connect, I get a respectable 7Megs down and 1meg up. But the signal has practically zero building penetration and constantly goes up and down.

Even worse, when it's switching between 3g and 4g - you lose whenever you are streaming or downloading. Very annoying.

They keep upload load because they believe upload is not as commonly used as download so they try t save more bandwidth for download over upload. That said wimax specs indicate theoretical peaks of 70mbps..and people have had 30mbps, some even claimed 50mbps in certain areas before it was capped.

Also, samsung already did a test of wimax 2 which they say is a minor upgrade to current towers and showed off 300mbps...

I agree it is bad..it improved a little here in NY over time and Ive had 4g download fairly well in vegas where I was in a car and it had a decent connection throughout...that said I think sprint is just being cheap on the towers..

Yes, thats cause its on 2.5ghz spectrum..which gives it same penetration around as wifi....thats where sprint using more mhz would help as it would have less interference and this is where more towers would make a better signal..but as stated Sprint did not want to go ALL IN and wanted a choice to escape to LTE...

Yes that sprint is actually working on fixing...

Just curious... Question for those of us who said they were happy with the evo. Who still has it? I do, but only because I'm still waiting for the galaxy s 2.

Still have it and like it. Waiting as well for something new. Maybe with another carrier as well.

Still have my Evo and still love it. However, the excitement is fading though. I am ready to move to something new IF I can find something that really beats the Evo by a large scale. I have not seen anything that does that so far. So, I am keeping my EVO for now.

The Galaxy S2 is the only Phone that I might leave my Evo for.
