Help for a Newbie with EVO, have a few questions

1) Browser is not sizing text columns correctly. Like iPhone or Opera Mobile or Mini does. I keep having to scroll left right to read it. If I unPinch it to fit it, the text size is too small. This is most common on reading forums. I'm running with Mobile View off because I hate lots of sites that force mobile view on.

2) In GPS Navigation I know how to switch to 2D View (tapping compass). But can I change it to continue rotating Map like it does in 3D. I hate 3D Navigation.

3) On Voice Dial every few times I use it (usually with BT headset) it leaves the prompt stuck on the phone. And I can't voice dial again until I dismiss it. Whole point of Voice Dial is to leave it in my pocket and I keep having to take it out to clear the stuck prompt.

4) I am running z4Root (only when needed, right now just for when I want to WIFI Tether). Are there other tweak I can make like removing some startup tasks now that I have Super User access. Or would those changes get reverted on next Reboot? In other words do I need to do a full root with custom ROM to tweak anything permanent (like startup apps).

5) Can Voice Dialer be set for requiring confirmation. So I can stop the call when it screws up (which it often does). Voice Command Windows Mobile was so much better. Yes I have all contacts in GMail.

I have applied software updates for Voice Search, Google Maps etc. from market.

Thanks

I have to agree that MS Voice Command was much better. There are other Voice apps on the market. Explore and let us know.

First of are you using the Stock Evo ROM? I saw you were rooted...so thats why I asked. The voice command on Android is a bit clunky...I also don't agree that they didn't incorperate the prompt (yes or no) when dialing...sometimes it gets the wrong name and dials the wrong number...

Z4root is a Temporary Root (in Memory only). It is not a full root but allows running apps that require rooting. So you can run that first (once per boot).

I figured out answer to #4 I can't change any config stuff without full root.

Your comment on Voice dialing is confusing. Are you saying Windows Mobile does or does not have confirmation or are you saying EVO does or does not have confirmation?

Windows Mobile had voice dialing that prompted if you wanted to call "said" person, Android as an OS does not...for some reason google left that one "BIG" thing out of there voice dialing software...wish they would fix that...its really annoying.

one of the advantages of open source is that you can always modify the environment to suite your needs.

Yeah but with all the releases of Android OS they probably should have made it that way by default...sorta dumb but hopefully they fix it soon!

I totally agree. With states banning the use of cell phones in cars unless you use hands free aparatus', this should have been implemented in at least 1 of the few updates. I mean, they have VC....but my 15 month old understands better than VC on my Evo at the moment!!

I wonder if it's a patent problem that MS holds on VC as to why google hasn't implemented it?

Regardless, I'm sure they could have come up with something of thier own by now....maybe we give google to much credit. eh...DK.
