that feature is not working with the latest unrevoked. Just do as Karl said.

I rooted today with unrevoked's latest and everything seems to have gone fine. Is there a benefit to changing to the other recovery from the one bundled? Sorry, 2nd day on Android.

Edit: only rooted so I could tether if that makes a difference.

Re: need help with recovery

You will probably have to switch to clockworkmod 2.6.0.1 or aman ra 2.1.1. If you want to flash custom roms. Unrevoked jumped the gun with their 3.0.0.5 recovery betting that all the rom developers would switch to the newest scripting language. Depending on which unrevoked you used you may or may not need too. They changed the recovery today to use 2.6.01 to correct the errors people were having. Anyway, the easiest way is to download rom manager from the market and see what recovery it says you have. If it says you have clockwork 2.6.X.X then your good to go, if not you can use rom manager to flash an alternate recovery, aman ra, or flash clockwork 2.6.x.x

OP should have said he used Unrevoked.

Thanks for the info. I don't really plan on flashing any custom roms for a bit, but would like to check on this anyway. However, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, I downloaded Rom manager and do not see the version of clockwork listed. Do I need to select flash recovery to see what I have?

The very top block in rom manager is labeled Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, in smaller type under that label it will list your current recovery. You want it to say either ColockworkMod Recovery 2.6.0.1 or Aman Ra 2.1.1. These are the newest recoveries for all users. They both backup the same elements in Nandroid, they both work with the new partitions and Hboots, they both flash custom roms, they both allow you to change directories on the sd card to search for the .zip file you want to flash. In other words, they are both good recoveries and either will work.

Now, if you look at the top of rom manager and it lists one of the ClockworkMod Recoveries that start with a 3.0 then you want to flash a new recovery. You can do this by scrolling down in Rom Manager and look for the heading more recoveries. There you will see an option to flash RA recovery 2.1.1 or flash older and experimental versions of ClockworkMod. There you will find the 2.6.0.1 version of clockworkmod.

Thanks. I really appreciate the help. I had no numbers listed there, so I hit All ClockworkMod Recoveries. It told me I had to install a recovery, so I did. Then I was able to select 2.6.0.1 and apply it. Not sure if that means I had no recovery or what, but it sounds squared away now.

Are CW 2.6.0.1 and RA 2.1.1 pretty much equal? I downloaded RA from the prior post and can apply it if that will makes things smoother should I decide to flash a rom.

Thanks again. Wish I could hit Thanks more times for you.

I would say that now they are pretty much equal, for a while their aman ra was the way to go but clockworkmod finally updated their recovery to add what aman ra could do. You should be fine sticking with clockworkmod.

The jury is still out about how well the cache is cleared using clockworkmod's recovery.

Most of us here prefer AMON. Clockworks Nand backup has been failling to back up the RSA keys. It also does not wipe the Cache(s) clean.

If you are not going to flash customs Roms (that's what they all say but eventually you will) it doesn't matter much.

Clockworkmod 2.6.0.1 now backs up the wimax image and rsa keys, and the Dalvik cache seems to wipe ok. I started having a problem with aman ra doing nandroid restores so I switched back to clockworkmod and its working great. The nandroid problem started when I used Titanium Backup to move programs to SD that aren't designed to move by the developer. After that I started getting nandroid restore problems. I always asks me to install nandroid mobile-sh from adb but I don't get that error with clockwork now and since it does the RSA keys now I switched back.

Re: need help with recovery

Sounds like Kouch is getting it straightened out. One advantage of Clockword is its integration with Rom Manager. With Amon, the app is just a spacer!

Re: need help with recovery

I hadn't flashed a new rom with the new clockwork yet, but I did flash a patch.zip today using rom manager and Koush stuck a nag in the flashing process lambasting developers for not switching to the edify scripting tools whenever you flash an amend scripted rom or zip. On another note, there was a tweet by Koush today that he is going to add aman ra support into rom manager allowing full functionality of rom manager with aman ra recovery.

Re: need help with recovery

Im fairly new to all of this so excuse the questions...Im on HW version 004( I seen somewhere that HW versions matter, i may have misunderstood) and currently on hboot 0.97 and clockwork 2.5.0.1. i see all these threads on how it doesn't wipe things well and when i go to wipe davlik it doesn't, or so it appears, do anything like when you wipe cache...is it suppose to be like that. I dl the pc36img, is this the latest amon 2.1.1? and where can i dl the latest 2.6.0.1? Just a lil confused please advise.

Thanks in advance

Re: need help with recovery

I always get the willies when I read, "I dl the pc36img". Let me explain something here.
The PC36IMG.zip is a moniker that tells the HBoot to test it and install the contents after asking the user.
There is NO gurantee as to what is wrapped up with that filename. Unless you know what it is you have downloaded, open the zip file and look inside.
A ROM will be 175 to 200 mb
Recovery will be around 4 to 5 mb
A standalone radio will be 150 to 170 KB

But you can put anything on that file. What it does is circumvent the need to use recovery. Before acquiring Root, this is what you are limited too but once root and a Recovery Shell, you don't need to use PC36IMG and I would recommend staying clear of them.
Also, if you install a Rom with the PC36IMG wrapper, rename or delete it after a succesful flash, lest you will experience a significant delay while the zip file is being interrogate upon all subsequent reboots (and it is all to easy to accidentally reflash that Rom- ugh!)

THis is not to say that there is no use for PC36IMG. There is and I post them from time to time though I have stopped posting them by that name. I instruct the user to rename them to PC36IMG. That way they know what they are installing and understand the process. And if they have a working recovery shell, they don't need to use the HBoot automated install system.
