Screen turns off when in a call

Had the Evo for a couple of weeks. Starting last night, when I made a call the screen turns off as soon as the call is connected and there appears to be no way to make it come back on. Its not just the backlight, it is the screen. Even pressing on it where the buttons are (number, end call, etc.) has no response. As soon as the call ends (other end has to disconnect since I can't) and I hit the power button, it comes back on. I didn't install or update any apps that may be causing a conflict. I've restarted, tried turning GV off and that has no effect. Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Yea have a case on it, but isn't the light sensor on the screen? Besides, its been on there for the last two weeks and this just started last night. But just for the heck of it I took the case off and it still does it.

You could be cover the sensor with fingers. Top left corner just below HTC is sensor.

Not a chance. Its sitting flat in the palm of my hand or on a desktop and does the same thing. Think its time to exchange it...only been a couple of weeks. Maybe a bad sensor.

sometimes when it is flat it does that. happens to me often, always has. if you make a call and then let it lay flat while connecting it will happen. pressing power button will get the screen back on in call but sometimes it's a dance. if the phone is upright when the connection is made then the screen seems to work fine when at ear and in palm while in a call.

Look for a program called Screen On in the market place. You can pick the programs that you want the screen to be kept on for.

My phone always goes blank after I make or answer a call. It get it back with the power button for a few seconds and then out again. I figured it was a power saving feature. It is a pain when I am entering phone promps but otherwise, no problem.

Re: Screen turns off when in a call

Turned out to be something wrong with the logic board. Just how my luck goes, I ended up dropping the Evo last night, from about two feet onto carpet. The friggin glass shattered...not just cracked. I'm starting to think the glass on these things is too fragile, many reports online of simple drops causing the glass to crack. Anyway, took it into a Corporate store today to have it repaired. BTW, new policy that started yesterday (10/24), if you have TEP, screen repairs are covered at no charge, at least it is on the EVO. They weren't sure if there is a limit of how many can be done for free per year, since this apparently started yesterday they weren't very familiar with it. So, they changed the screen out. After this, it just wasn't working right at all. Screen was very slow, if it would respond at all. They thought it was the screen, tested the screen, screen was fine, put a new screen on it and it still did the same thing. Determined to be the logic board. Since I only had it a couple of weeks, they switched it out for me with a new one.
