Go to your message list, where you see all your threads. Click Menu > Delete. From there, you can choose which threads to remove by making the X red.

Ok I tryed that and it froze my phone... and this guy who works for Sprint said if I tryed deleting text conversations that have over 3,000 txts it'll crash my phone. Is there any quick, fast and easyier way to delete them all. should I do a factory reset or would that delete my contacts?

I go thru this often and its such a freaking pita. You think programmers would have a way to make this work for once and for all. Especially with a 1GHz processor! Just to delete 1 thread takes 5 minutes and the app always crashes and has to be forced closed. It's SO annoying. I wish someone would make a fix.

How are your contacts synched? If you have Google or Exchange, they will be saved.

Why not just go into the text message settings and enable the message limit? That way you won't have a shit load of messages to delete at once.

I tried that and trys deleting them on its own. Idk what to do... there's got to be a way to wipe out just the text messages.

I clear out a 3000 text thread weekly and it takes about 20-30 minutes before it deletes. I just tell it to delete and go to bed and the next day they are gone. I have done a thread of over 5000, it just took longer.

Yes, you can wipe your phone and your texts will be gone!

Google keeps a copy of your contacts on their server, so that will return when you enter your google password when you do a reset.

You could try rooting and becoming a flash junkie like many of us are. I never have to worry about too many text messages because I flash ROMs so often, the count never gets too high :)

Re: text messaging overload!. how do i?

goto messages > menu > settings > check delete old messages > below that set text message limit and it will auto delete messages after the set amount.

edit: this limit is per conversation

Edit # 2 -- the messages will not auto delete untill a message is either sent or received on the conversation (thread)

aman1127 10-23-2010 05:26 AM

I agree with rainfreak. Then after you boot, set autodelete. I that the limit per thread has been around 1200 for a 2 min delete. I cant imagine 5-20 mins. Bullshit
