About to pay $50 more a month for an EVO... any regrets from switching from WM?

I'm currently on a F&F plan with Pick3, FIFM, Nights@5pm, $7.5 vision, Free SMS w/ 25% corp discount. I pay about $120 before discounts and taxes are applied. I'm about to switch my line out to an ED450 plan (while keeping everyone else on the family plan) and my bill will come out to $172.5 a month before taxes and discounts are applied.

I've used the Apache, Titan, Vogue, Raphael, and Rhodium and am about to switch over to an EVO out of pure boredom (and lots of SODs on my TP2). Can you guys answer some questions for me since I'm an Android noob?

1) Will Android play WMA files? Not that important to me, but I did convert about 4GB worth of music on my SD card to WMA to save space. I would need to grab and organize the originals from my PC.

2) Is Google Maps good enough to replace iGO8 for navigation? Are there any navigation apps that have maps that are saved locally?

3) Is the phone too big? Is it pocket-able? This thing looked pretty beastly...

4) Has it changed your life the way an iPhone change some people's? Just wondering since each WM phone I upgraded too seemed to have just marginal improvements....

5) I have 3 email accounts (work, personal, school)... any problems switching from outlook to the native email client?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Not sure if it will be worth it if the difference is 50/month.

I have to say it's damn worth it if 20 bucks + little tax difference though.

As for navigation, Igo8 was ok on TP2, but it damn sure wasn't good as google navigation. I tried it yesterday and it was very accurate.

Another big down side of EVO is the fact that my TP2 used to connect with my in-dash navigation in my car, but I don't think EVO will.

Oh and you might not the the battery life of EVO.

Side info: You will probably want to flash the phone to custom roms, but it will be kinda intimidating at first due to too much old information on stickies. I got it done, but I have no idea which method did the job since I tried 2-3 methods.

yea im really torn because of the price difference.... but it looks like the TP2 is the end of the line for me (since I'm not on SERO). I guess it's not a matter will I upgrade, but when...

Re: About to pay $50 more a month for an EVO... any regrets from switching from WM?

Strictly my opinion.
I have extensive play time with tp, some tp2 (still active on my other line)
I switched from sero F&F.
1) I believe it does, but it is a matter of finding codec/player
2) iGO8-never tried it, but Android version of google maps is AWESOME!
3) Not really, tp was not really a poachable solution due to my physique, but fits in the shirt pocket just fine
4) The biggest "wow factor" was the OS itself, sure device is nice but I am liking TP2, just HAD TO GET a new phone, so I was looking at paying for TP@ or EVO (same amount). As far as being i"anything"-fanboy, I am on my 5th HTC device, so I am somewhat partial, but as soon as I see a spec sheet better than HTC, I will switch, and I still don't believe that I should by the device just because I am being told it is "cool"
5) I use native client for my exchange (work) e-mail, k-9 mail client for my 3 other accounts and G-mail client for my g-mail account.
To recap I switched from ~ $65 for 2 lines a month to $143 for 2 lines w/TEP. In 1 year I have spent about 1200 (yes twelve hundred minutes) with my TP, while I’ve d/l over 200 gigs of data. So data plan and paying for "premium data plan" is a good option for ME. Surly there are cheaper phones or way to avoid "EVO Tax", but I believe that price of admission is justifiable based on my usage.
Hope that helps.

PS on a flip side if Sprint would have replaced my TP with TP2, I would probably still be on Sero F&F

1. The Evo will play WMA files. Some people changed the file extension to mp3 to get it to work and some played wma fine using Sense UI's music player. If I'm correct, the default android music player does not support wma. Playing wma will be no problem for you.

2. I use Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation for everything I need and they work fine. I can't comment on iGO since I've never used it. Why would you want to have maps stored locally anyway?

3. It's pocketable...if you wear ****ies. I wouldn't want to carry my investment in my pocket though. How you carry it is a personal preference.

4. It changed my life until the NFL app stopped working. It's simplified my life tremendously. I use it for mp3 player, portable tv, phone, gps navigation, etc....all in one device. People who say iPhones changed their lives probably didn't have a life to begin with.

5. You will need a gmail account. No problem switching through them. Hope it helps.

Yes

Nope, but you can get "MOTONAV" which is a replacement for iGO8 since it is based off of iGO and uses the exact same mapping/content.

Nope, it is the perfect size. Any bigger and It would begin to look odd. It is pocket-able depending...You should play with one in Best Buy or the Sprint Store to judge. Information like this is subjective.

Yes. At first I was worried that Android, being the young OS that it is, wouldn't have all the apps that i've grown used to on WM, but the development behind Android has surprised me. Almost, if not all apps I've used on WM have an alternative on Android. Also, it's a breath of fresh air not to have an OS slow down after a few hours use, not to have to reboot so much (although on my custom 6.1 ROM, I had no problems and hardly ever rebooted, or had a lockup). the Android platform in general is just so much better than classic Windows Mobile it's laughable. Trust me. However, again, this is subjective, so you may think differently.

Well, I can't say for sure, since I only use the gmail client with all of my mail being forwarded to it. But, I haven't read too many complaints about multiple email accounts and/or Android's ability to handle them.[/quote]

Oh and not sure if 4G network is available in your area, but it's a huge battery killer at this point, and only worth it when tethering at this point. As for the speed, check my sig!

Oh and slingmobile looks great on EVO. (hint:google "slingmobile apk" once your rooted)

Wow... That's going to be a bigger increase in billing compared to me.... glad you are still happy with your decision...
