I was watching my battery DROP today while I was at work and couldn't figure out why. I tried watching everything via OSMonitor and kept checking my battery meter to see what was draining it.

I just finally figured it out. Google's Gesture Search and it's newest version decimated my EVO running Stock 2.2. It wasn't showing on my battery status by now it is.

If anyone else is having battery problems uninstall, Gesture Search. Hopefully I will save someone from a dead EVO tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is isolated but I did read through the Gesture Search comments on the Market and I'm not the only EVO 2.2 user having this issue. So I thought I'd just share it with you all before someone ventures out on an important daily task and has a dead EVO after 3 hours.

I installed gesture search and it said that it was taking 80% of my battery usage but it didn't seem to actually affect my battery life in actual usage. I uninstalled it anyway because I didn't feel like looking at it sitting at the top of my battery usage chart even though it didn't seem to hurt it.

Turn off the "Double flip" option. I just put an icon on my main page. It says Double flip will use battery.

I concur with searcher61, It is the Double-flip that kills the battery.

Same here. Gesture Search is sitting at 88%, but the actual battery life seems largely unaffected so far.
I like it enough to keep it. Worst case, just turn off the flip function.

ItIs double flip a new option in the updated version? I don't see that in the older version. What does it do?

Awesome, there's the source of the problem. Thanks man.
Hopefully they will roll out a fix for it soon.

I'm surprised that some of you are having it use up your battery and noticing no shortage of life. I was losing about 1% every 5 minutes with the phone idle and 3G disabled. I usually get about 1% every 1 or 2 hours (sometimes better) if I just let it sit there.

Same problem as others here. Is there a way to go back to the old version until they come out with a fix?
