do i have a virus?

So last night i was installing some apps from market..
(like 6 apps or so)
and today my battery dies really quickly, phone gets hot,
and I notice lots of apps just start running themselves.

WTF?

Is your phone showing data being used all the time? May be a program that is data hungry and running all time, chech what programs are running.

my guess.. NO virus.

you have a bad app... it might be badly programed or installed failure.

uninstall all 6 new apps.
load one at a time... checking how your phone is doing.

re-installation sometimes fixes the issue.
if the app still misbehaves... dont use it

you know what, one of the apps i installed was advanced task killer, I think it's just listing apps that it could kill, and not what's actually loaded?

something is definitely going on with my battery though.. it gets hot,
and isnt' lasting very long.. maybe i need to turn it off for a while
let it cool down, then charge it

because if i let it charge for like 30 minutes, as soon as i unplug it, it's sayin like 5%

WOW! power down, pull the battery, put it back in and bring it back up. Check those apps. AND... if you dont yet have lookout installed... consider it. It scans everything you install.

It's normal to see a lot of apps running in ATK's list. Those are apps that are preloaded into memory. Being preloaded into memory does not mean that the apps are consuming any other resources.

Although, in your case, one of them apparently is.

My battery was doing this for a whlie. I hard reset, restored from a backup and thsi disappeared. Also pulled the battery and let it sit until no charge was left in the device in case there was any static discharge floating around.

If your battery gets to a certain temperature it will not charge...

does the heating up happen when you charge the battery only?

Also, the app may be running a service in the background that is constantly checking the internet and transferring data/doing cpu work causing large energy drain

Anyway to figure out what app is doing this? Or maybe even just narrow it down. My phone isnt sleeping and the biggest energy drain is network. I am having tones of trouble figuring it out lol about to reset and reload one at a time.

I have noticed that GPS mapping applications cause my phone to heat up. Even after suposively turning them off, they continue to cause my phone to cook. THe only solution so far has been for me to do a power down and restart.

I do wish these apps had a true "off" option. Most just stay resisdent.

See if your phone is going into standby when off, my guess is its not as one of those programs is constantly running. I've found a few that do this and it sucks...

Spareparts....the program has a battery monitor and it will tell you what is preventing your phone from sleeping.

It might be the ATK. I had that installed on my Evo and it cause the phone to never sleep.

Re: do i have a virus?

UPDATE: I realized i installed more than 6 programs, probably 10 or 12, i removed about 6, the others looked cool so i kept them. i let the phone cool off and swapped out batteries.

unfortunately later that night i dropped my phone on a wooden floor.. the stupid plastic crystal case (that i like lol) popped off it. It seemed to have fell flat. Anyway there was no damage to the phone, however i did notice the sd card was toast
and overheating.

so i don't know if the drop caused the sd card to overheat or if it was a pre-existing condition that i was feeling earlier that day. so i swapped in a spare 2 gb sd card i had, at first it didnt' recognize it and i was thinking the reader was bad, but i reseated the card and all is well now.

i also put on my backup rubber cheapie 99 cents ebay case instead.

now i have to decide to i want to play with froyo 2.2 or not. i think i will

Re: do i have a virus?

battery overheating? are you running the regular phone antenna with wifi and or 4G?

dannyppc6700 08-01-2010 03:02 PM

Re: do i have a virus?

I leave the 4g turned on most of the time.. but ti's often at 3g. yes i have the stock antenna. I don't use the wifi that much.

Re: do i have a virus?

well if you run cdma/3G and 4G at the same time for long periods of time while using both such as messaging/calls and using data at the same time, that could be your heating issue
