How much faster with Froyo?

I was just thinking that the EVO is already considerably fast, almost instantaneous in changing screens. Will Froyo allow for or cause the screen to change as your finger approaches?? LOL.....

Re: How much faster with Froyo?

Froyo isn't going to help much with input lag really since the EVO has a 30fps cap. I can tell you this though. For the users who are able to apply the 30fps fix have ALL reported input lag is gone and that its like night and day.

Now that aside running linpack on 2.1 with JIT enabled I get around 10 MFLOPS max.. On froyo I get around 40 MFLOPS.

So it can be about 4 times as fast as 2.1.

Sent from my EVO

Im on EVOlution's 2.2 Froyo U8
Its MUCH faster than 2.1. I constantly have ablot 200mb of free memory. You should flash it just to check it out.

Seems like I am one of the lucky ones though I expect almost all issues to be fixed eventually if not soon. I have little to no light leakage. No grounding issues. Camera takes amazings pics. Just checked my screen last night and I have an Epson screen, version 003. I am quite content as it stands and cant wait for these updates to start rolling through. Heck I even get 4G everywhere, including at home, and my city: Jacksonville FL isnt even officially on the 4G map. Hopefully everyone will be happy soon.

you only think your phone is fast because you're probably coming from winmo, android 2.2 web browser and aps work way faster then 2.1. i can name a couple of apps that will lag on 2.1 but once on 2.2 they will stop lagging, obviously they are games and use high performance. just opening up a regular app, obviously you can't get to much faster then that.

Re: How much faster with Froyo?

Don't get me wrong I am happy with my EVO. I have a little light leakage but that is it really besides the input lag..

If I wanted a phone that scrolled slow honestly I would have just kept my old Hermes..Normally I'm stuck with my phone for the full 2 years so I want to try and get the best I can while I can.

Maybe the problems will be fixed but then again maybe not. If the 30fps issue isnt figured out for the novak screens by July 1st then I am going to have to take it back and either

a. wait till all the issues are fixed and get it then
b. wait for another phone that isnt limited from its full potential.

this makes sense. since it seems like the fps is blocked by htc i'm hoping that when cyanogen mod comes out for evo from source im hoping that problem is fixed. honestly i'm grateful for avalaunch but cyanogen is the GOD of source and this is the only rom i'm waiting for.

I agree and honestly the modding community is the part that I would miss the most..Hell I'm even looking for reasons to overlook this but if its going to be 2 months before I can actually get a EVO that doesnt have lag etc then I might as well wait and see if something newer comes out.

Do you not read the Tech news on the Evo? It has been stated that the 30fps cap is being addressed in the release of 2.2. It is a limitation that is OS based via HTC...people have already been able to get 60fps on the phone with some tweaks...Your post is a bit confusing...you say there is a 30fps cap..but then you say there are users that have applied the 30fps fix?!?!? Which one do you really want to post about?

My post is confusing to you because you don't know what you're talking about. I suggest you do some more research.

Yes there IS a 30fps cap and HTC has already stated multiple times its a HARDWARE limit. They have never said they will fix it. There is a kernel that removes the 30fps cap on EVO's with the epson screen but not the novak screen which most users have.

So yeah you go by info you're getting from who knows where and I'll go by REAL world experience and tests..thank you..

well if there is a different kernel that can fix it, than its not hardware, its software. If it was hardware a different kernel or a few lines of code would not be able to fix it

ummm really? I said HTC said it was hardware but yeah obviously its not. I thought that was obvious but apparently not.

On second thought I have no idea what im talking about so move along and wait for the HTC fix to come out like ChrisH09 said HTC would do..

Lets all just relax were friends here no reason to get upset on either side. If it is a true hardware limit it would never be fixed by anything software, so for at least the epson screen we know it was not hardware. once a fix/verdict comes out we will know if the novatek screen is also software limited or if it truly does have some screwy limit. Granted that I doubt any of us are hardware/software engineers lets just agree to all be patient with the current developers working their magic and each person can solve their issues with the phone in their own manner.

Ha Ha... you hit the nail right on the head. I am a longtime Windows convert who swore I would never come over to the dark side. I must admit, I am pleasantly surprised with many facets of Android.
