My Evo will not play videos. It will play one with no picture and the other it will not play at all. One is in .avi format and the other .mp4. What am I doing wrong?

It also keeps saying memory card unavailable when I try to play it from Mixzing.

Do you have your phone plugged into your computer when trying to play them?

I use HandBrake to convert my video files from .avi to mp4. Here's a link on how to do it

No, phone is not plugged in the computer. Are .mp4's the best format for the EVO? And I have a MAC if that makes a difference.

Mp4's work fine for me and i use the stock video player...basically the same vids i have converted for my ipod i use on my Evo wit no problems......I use Allok 3gp converter by the way

Doesn't matter, what you need is a 3rd party media player.

The best I found so far is called "Wehzhenghua Player", which is a Chinese-made application. It basically plays pretty much everything you throw at it (including .rm-s) with some minor hitches.

Sadly that app is only available in Chinese and I have contacted the author for authorization to translate it but, haven't heard from him so far.

Look around there are some threads talking about alternative apps to play your videos.

Have you done the Over The Air update on your phone? not sure if you are aware, but there is a known issue with the SD on the EVO. The OTA supposedly fixes the issue.

Just a caveat, i am not suggesting you do the OTA, just mentioning that perhaps it may be the cause of your memory card issue. YMMV, use your own judgement.

use handbrake and make sure the video output is set height 572 by 720. that plays all video once coded!

I found a video app that can actually play divx encoded avi's smoothly. This one is playing at a full 24 frames per second and looks good.

It called RockPlayerBase and is currently in a closed beta. Here is a download of the app:
