Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?

I LOVE this phone. I can see how some people with very specific needs might not get everything they need from it but even with a few of the issues mentioned (light leak) I wouldn't return it and I still WOW my friends (and strangers) with it daily. It does everything I wanted to do with my TP but does it WELL! It's an amazing phone and performs magnificently.

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?

I love my EVO. Coming from the TP it is like night and day. I don't think I would go back to WM till it is more flexible. I love the ablilty to move stuff around and make it mine. On WM I had to get that from other people and I didn't like it that much. I do have some frustrations with my hotmail contacts but I found a work around (imported to gmail and update both places). I am still waiting for Microsoft to support Android which I heard they are trying. I fought the OS for the first couple of days just because it wasn't like WM but got over it and now enjoying it for what it is.

I guess I have been a WinMo user so long, transitioning to the Android OS is proving more difficult than I care to tolerate. Plus, due to my companies security policies, I cannot use HTC Sync to sync it to my Outlook and since Android is not an approved OS, I can't use the MS Exchange option either. I thought I had found a work-around to this hurdle w/ a small PC installed app called gSyncit, but that has proven to be buggy and somewhat unreliable as well. Additionally, I can't manage my mobile bookmarks from my PC (something I have become accustomed to w/ my WM device). The other major reason I am considering returning the device is despite how well its specs look on paper, its performance in real-world use is not as impressive.

Some of my opinions regarding the Evo:
- While the 8mp camera takes BIG photos, the picture quality is lacking
- 720p HD video recording is nowhere near as good as my DSC-H20 and only marginally better than my TP
- HDMI output might be nice, but I haven't used it & don't see myself ever taking advantage of it
- The 4.3" screen is nice, but is almost unusable unless you use both hands
- Despite trying several browsers, the device seems incapable of displaying animated images (GIFs)
- I find it difficult to find good apps in the Android market
- Speaking of apps, many of the android "apps" (ones I would use anyway) are just UIs that connect you to the same content available from mobile-based websites. I can accomplish the same tasks from PIE, as opposed to launching this app for this & that app for that, etc.

I hope no one misinterprets my post. I am not a WinMo fanboy and I'm not anti-Android. I know w/ enough time and tools (the ability to properly sync the device to my corporate machine) I would probably learn to love the device. But right now it looks like I will need to go back to my old trusty TP (please hold your groans to a minimum-LOL) and wait for the next WinMo device to come out... or jump the Sprint ship for T-Mobile's HD2.
good luck!!!

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?

Android is still oh so young. It is the leader in open source OS's for the future. It expands exponentially every day and with the OHA (Open Handset Alliance) backing it, it has unlimited resources and possibility.

HTC makes many phones. Apple makes only one.

I believe HTC does a fantastic job in manufacturing... especially since they design & create innovative devices for a variety of markets & carriers and in relatively short time. They even purchased a reputable design company to further enhance their products with cosmetic appeal. (Take a hint Mr. jobs)

Sprint has better coverage & service plans. Period. Ancient grandfathered-plans from the 80's dont count. Comparable plan to plan, they are a better value. My 3G/voice calling is just awesome. Either through default browser or Dolphin HD, pages render fast and scrolls smooth. I still have that chitty-ass grin every time I flick or scroll or surf.

I haven't even used 4G yet...

And it works. Brilliantly. (I am not a employee/affiliate of HTC, Sprint, etc)

But life is about personal freed and choice. Exercise it!

Whatever problems you may have had with this in the past with other phones, don't exist with the Evo. The Evo comes with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which can also be used as a line-in jack to your car stereo head unit (provided it has an AUX port) to play whatever content you want through your Evo. I personally use an app called A Online Radio which streams Shoutcast stations, Icecast, and others, and you can add your own .pls files. I use it all the time in my car without any issues. With the Pandora app in the Android marketplace, you can do the same. All you need is a 3.5mm stereo cable which costs a few bucks at Radio Shack or any other electronics store.

Ultimately it's your decision, but I think you'd be regretting your decision to switch to AT&T once you got locked in to a contract with them. The Evo can do so much more than the iPhone already, and it's only been out not even 2 weeks! It will only get better with time.

Yeah, have fun with that. You'll be hating life when you realize you only get reception half the time as opposed to Sprint. I had T-mobile for several years and their network is horrible to say the least. I used to have to walk outside my house to the end of my driveway just to get reception so I could make a phone call when I had them, and I lived right in the middle of a very well populated area!

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?

The EVO is the best phone out right now...... The iphone is just apps.... The EVO is a phone with alot of features with apps. As far as the battery... Do the tweak and you will see the 8-10 hours battery life. Some days I see 15....... Friend Stream is a battery killer. Just like the palm pre with live updates. You battery die doing it.
