Internet browser issue: pages stop rendering halfway

Ok this is kind of weird. I've experienced this on both the EVO and Droid Incredible, so I'm thinking it's not device specific or anything like that...

The first few days of browsing the net I've noticed fast and complete page rendering. On both devices after that time period, however, I started experiencing half assed browsing. By this i mean pages will start to render but progress seems to just stop halfway and looks like it's stuck loading. The speedtest app still says i'm getting 800kbps down, so i don't know what's going on... I noticed the data arrows in the notification bar just fade out after the initial boost of page rendering, which kind of explains why the status bar seems to just get stuck halfway. So maybe the data is just transferring in bursts and refuses to reconnect.

Is this normal android behavior? anyone else experience the dramatic performance shift using the browser? I wonder if it's something I downloaded.

edit: attached a pic to show how data just stops and green status bar just sits near the middle. i let it sit there for like 4 minutes and data didn't start up again. Again, this has happened on the incredible and the evo, so i'm thinking it's an android issue or at least android with sense issue.

I had this happen a couple of times. Had to tell the browser to reload and reload a few times. Anyway you can force stop the browser from the menu. Menu > Settings > applications >(forget the name but it's the second option) > browse to internet click that > scroll down click on force stop.

Re: Internet browser issue

thanks for the force close recommendation, sounds like a solution for when it happens at least. Just tried it and i was able to load pages completely.

It's kind of annoying that happens... loading just stops after half the page is downloading... i'm gonna upload a screenshot in the first post to show how data just stops while status bar is stuck (i left it there for like 4 minutes and no progress after the pause). I wonder if anyone knows why this happens.

ha, don't you think that's the first thing i'd check? i tried like 10 sites. it's definitely something with the browser and/or data

tried that too, doesn't help... cleared all options in settings. I tried turning device on and off too, didn't work. Only thing that worked is the suggestion to force stop the browser. So i guess i can safely assume the browser can act up.

Re: Internet browser issue: pages stop rendering halfway

When i was on 2.1 even on my nexus i would have the issue if i didn't close the browser often when it had been running for hours without closing, finally it would freeze no matter what and i would have to exit or use the task killer to start it over. once i went to froyo this never happened again. i loaded froyo on my evo (sending mms doesn't work, camera doesn't work yet but soon will, I don't need camera currently so no more fring for me, you can't sync facebook account with contacts, and no way to activate 4g because no icon but i don't live in a 4g area yet) but everything else is working. i have not had the internet issue or the soft resetting issue since running froyo.

Re: Internet browser issue: pages stop rendering halfway

Ahh, well good to know its not just the evo. Might have to finally install a task killer. Hopefully froo is the answer. Thanks

Re: Internet browser issue: pages stop rendering halfway

Also, you can try turning off the mobile network, and then turn it back on. Hold down power, and turn off the network. Or just use the mobile widget from HTC.
