Excelent news for Wifi Tether.
Taken from XDA, original link here. If this doesnt make sense to you just move along ;)
Hello All, I have gotten infrastructure mode working on my EVO. I compiled support for the SIOCSIWPRIV AP_PROFILE_SET system call into iwconfig and lo and behold: After unloading and reloading the _ap.bin firmware using insmod while wifi-tether is running I issue the following command: Command: # ./ultraiwconfig eth0 mode master Response in kernel log: Code:
<4>[19452.040679] penguin, get AP_PROFILE_SET The interface then appears on my Windows 7 laptop in infrastructure mode fully supporting wpa. I will be working with Harald in the coming days to integrate this functionality into android-wifi-tether! |
Re: Excelent news for Wifi Tether.

Re: Excelent news for Wifi Tether.
Might want to throw andrew500 all the credit.
Alot of devices wont connect to Ad-hoc ( computer to computer wifi network )/// infrastructure mode is like what you get from a real wifi router.....other devices such as gaming systems can connect to this type of network. |
Re: Excelent news for Wifi Tether.
Baically this means that the phone would be seen as a normal Access Point instead of as an ad-hoc network. This is how the Sprint hotspot app works. This is great news indeed. So long as they are able to get it out before June 20th (when I switch the EVO to my main Sprint account), I'll be a happy camper.

INFRASTRUCTURE VERSION - IT'S OUT!!!
I am sitting at the airport and posting this from my laptop that is hooked up to the latest download. It shows up as "Security Enabled WPA2 Network" on my laptop (XP SP3). Prior to the update it showed up as ad-hoc. I don't have a 4g signal here at Nashville airport, so I am just using 3g. I will play with 4g when I get home (DFW).
