Radioshack updated my phone. No root for me?

The guy got an email saying it fixed a few "problems" with the Evo. I'm assuming the real reason for the update was to stop people from rooting it.

Although I'm not too concerned about rooting it since it's quite an amazing device on it's own, I wouldn't mind testing out a Froyo leak whenever it pops up or even putting on a few custom ROMs to see how they do.

Anyways, I'm guessing I've already passed the point of no return?

That's what I've read too. Several people were still able to root after applying the udpate. All you can do is try.

why is everyone calling it "root" instead of "unlock"?

As I understand it, Android sits on top of a Linux kernel, In Linux parlance gaining Root access is very similar to logging on to WIN box as an administrator. This is a simplistic way of looking at it but can be hopefully helpful.

My updated EVO rooted just fine. Follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine. Make sure you download all the needed software and a custom rom to flash with first.
