netarchy and SteelH from XDA both have rooted the Stock Froyo ROM, but unless you have true root, you can't install either of them. Currently there is no way AFAIK to get root on the Stock 2.2 update just by installing it from OTA. I would suggest getting true root/nand unlock via one of the one click/idiot proof methods, then flashing the rooted Stock 2.2 updated provided by netarchy or SteelH, then you won't need unrevoked. :-p

yes simpleroot is a FULL root. first click is for root, second is for recovery (where u then can flash roms and make backups and stuff)

There is a very informative sticky on top of this page that can answer alot of your questions, there is even a video to walk you through. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=123714

Make sure you do alot of reading and searching first to get familiar with all the different terms. Not sure if you were or are familiar with winmo and hacking but android is a different ballgame all together. It can be very intimidating at first but after a while you realize that it was easy as hell.

You should wipe before flashing a new rom.
There is a small program available for download that let's u full root in a few easy clicks. Im on my phone so cant find it now but its on here somewhere.
Contacts are backed up automatically by Google so when u go through the setup process your contacts should be there right away. You can check it by signing onto gmail and going to contacts.
You can flash back to an earlier or stock rom at anytime if you want to.
I'm not good with the kernal stuff so ill leave that to the pros.
You can flash new radios just like u flash new roms. Prl is gonna be the same until Google releases the source code or some such thing.

This is all coming from an amateur so I might not be 100% on some things so people feel free to correct me if im wrong
