Re: this keyboard sux

I came from a windows mobile device using SPB keyboard and the transition was a little difficult. Once I understood how the android keyboard works, I have no problems.

Re: this keyboard sux

I love the keyboard, but then again I liked the keyboard on the iPhone 3GS when I had it. It was nice having the physical keyboard on the TP but I actually feel faster now.

Everyone still having success with text input ? I have tried a few free keyboard apps and feel the 1 that comes with the phone is laid out the best for my typing . Thick buttons app isn't that bad but I'm still screwing up like crazy .. getting used to shifting over for numbers is annoying still .. long press comes in handy at times but when its a string with a large mix of characters its annoying. Not complaining, just reporting take on it .. today I play some more to see how it goes
You should try the mod of the HTC keyboard here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416

You can change the popup delay (long press) to a shorter delay to make it faster. Default is 750ms, but I have mine at 275ms. You can change the spacing of the keys to make them appear smaller (may help you be more precise). Doesn't have the arrow buttons, but there is an option to use the volume rocker to move the cursor back and forward. There are tons of other customizations as well.

Re: this keyboard sux

I know that at first I was cursing the keyboard compared to my Pre's after a few days of typing with it, I can say I'm consistently faster on the EVO, mostly thanks to the auto correction and adding words to the user dictionary. The auto correction is quite good. Go to Menu > Language & Keyboard > Touch Input > Tutorial. This will show you how to use the touch keyboard and it's auto correct feature.

Can't deal with new eh? Sucks for you...few hours and gave up? Do you get far in life? Cuz it seems you gave up way before you gave the Evo a chance. The phone has way more to offer than what your giving it up for. You do relize you can download different keyboards for Android Phones right? If you went into the market you probably could have downloaded a few and tried them out...download Swype...give it a try...your fingers only have to graze the letters for it to come up on the screen...oh and to top it off, Android has "Speech to Text" which will write out what you speak....no fingers needed....

All I'm saying is give it a try, for more than 2hrs...like maybe a week...you might just find yourself getting used to it after that...

Personally the TP2 screen sucks...unresponsive at times...hardware keyboard is nice...but I like to use both...and I will say this the Evo's onscreen keyboard is alot more responsive than the TP2's....oh, do you relize that the Evo's keyboard is the same as the TP2's, just bigger??? Still using Sense UI...with some tweaks....thats all.

All I have to say is, "Swype". Download it, install it, and you'll never ever look back.

Typing is so difficult on this damn phone. Am i the only 1 who thinks so ? The text lag is gone but now i haveto type alot slower wihich really blows
I felt the same way until someone showed me where the calibration tool is located. Try calibrating and see if it's not better.

Go to settings\language & keyboard\Touch Input\Text Input\calibration tool.

This really helped me.
