Ringtones directory
I did a quick search but didn't find anything about this so forgive me if it's been asked, but where do ringtones go on the Evo? I have a mess of them I used on the TP and I'd like to put them on my Evo. Any help would be great.

Re: Ringtones directory
I think i can help.. You need to get together all the ringtones, alerts, & alarms on your computer.. Create a folder named Media.. Inside the Media folder, create three more folders named, Notifications, Alerts, & Alarms.. Place all your ringtones in the Notifications folder.. All your alerts for text messages go in the Alerts folder.. All your Alarms sounds go in the Alarms folder.. Plug your EVO into your computer, select Disk Drive on your hand set.. Open up the Phone files,, copy (or move) the Media folder to the other files on the phone.. RESET.. Good To GO..

Re: Ringtones directory
to set your personal sounds as ringers, open them in the music application, then hit the menu key and set as ringtone. now if I can just figure out how to set them as notification sounds, I'll be happy... for now. :P

Re: Ringtones directory
You know all you have to do is open the media folder and creat a new file so that you have notifications as well as ringtones filders in the media file. Worked for me.

Re: Ringtones directory
Zedge - it's a pretty good app on the market. Also have tried Mabilo Ringtones...

I get a "music" folder when I have the phone hooked up as a drive, but no "media" folder, ringtone folder or notifications folder. |

Re: Ringtones directory
Just a tip... you guys need to be a little more specific when you're talking about file paths and such. If you say "Open up the Phone files,, copy (or move) the Media folder to the other files on the phone.. RESET.. Good To GO.." that's not very specific... It's confusing to know whether the Media folder goes right in another existing folder or whether to copy/move it as if it's a brand new folder at the top level.

Re: Ringtones directory
why are all of the replies so vague? Media folder as in the one on the SDCARD or in system on the root of the device? And if you mean the folder on the device, how do you copy paste files into there? Gives me an error everytime i try. and if you mean the sdcard, I made the folders i was supposed to make, i tried playing the songs in the music player provided so i can set them as a ringtone, but when i play my own mp3s, and click menu, nothing pops up. only thing i can do is pause. so please explain exactly what to do to get my mp3s as ringtones. thanks

Re: Ringtones directory
I tried placing my ringtones in sdcard\media\audio\ringtones\ and sdcard\ringtones For some reason EVO only detects preloaded tones. What am I doing wrong?

I have about 50 different MP3 files in in ringtones directory that came from different sources. I doubt all of them are bad...

And if those aren't clear enough, I've attached a crudely drawn image of detailed instructions. Enjoy. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...structions.jpg But seriously, if you need more help, just pm me or post in here. I'll be happy to help. |
Re: Ringtones directory
I converted the old Buzzer_Loud.wav (great for an "alarming" alarm) to an mp3 on my PC, emailed it to myself, saved to SD Card (goes to Downloads by default, found that my SD card already had sd\media\audio with a notifications sub-directory under that. I added an alarms directory, copied the buzzer file over, open my alarm clock, and it was already there. I know I hadn't created the sd\media\audio\notifications folder (unless something I installed did), because the only file in there was some Facebook file, and I know more about 8-track tapes than I do about Facebook.
So the OS apparently reads in parallel from the main memory and the SD card for such files. |

When I look through my phone using the file explorer app called ASTRO, my new Media folder does not show up unless I'm looking through it to add a song as an Alarm, otherwise this new folder does not show. Any ideas to for adding a Ringtone? Given I just got the Evo yesterday, so its an brand new stock ROM and all that. Never mind fellows, seems not having an "s" in Ringtones made all the difference. |
Re: Ringtones directory
sdcard/media/audio/ringtone
on your sd card create a media folder, then inside that an audio folder, then inside that a ringtone folder. place it in the ringtone folder, make sure you have the folder set up like above. Or if you create a ringtone with mp3 trimmer then it will create a folder called sdcard/ringtone |
