It really just depends if the root exploit was patched in the 2.1 build that's on the EVO.

It might have been, or at least been changed, since root will probably give you free access to the hotspot.

Then again, Sprint could have made it so the phone has to check with the account to make sure it has the ability to use the hotspot.

I am not too worried about tethering, at least for now we can use PDANet. But I doubt that hotspot program will cause any issues once phone is rooted. If program checks for the flag on the account, it can be replaced by another program that won't care about account flags.

It does. At least out of the box. If you don't have the $29.99 SOC on your plan, it wont work
