[REQ] Transparent Taskbar for 2.2
 

I'm on Virus's B2 ROM and having a bit of trouble trying to find a transparent taskbar that doesn't change my whole setup...

I would also like this. I use Riptides theme to achieve this but have recently been wanting to switch it up, but don't wanna lose my clear task bar....

Doesn't riptides theme change the lockscreen as well..?

Yes it does. It is clear also, which actually looks really awesome!!! There are only a couple of things with Riptides theme that I'm not crazy about. I guess for me I would be better off just changing those things back to stock then trying to change a lot of things to clear and not using a theme...

Yeah exactly, which is why I'm not trying to change my whole theme, I like my current setup "red & blue" the only thing I wanted clear was my taskbar but doesn't seem as simple as it was with windows mobile...

Yea I know.. I wish we had a thread full of all of these little customizations that we want. This stuff was every where for the TP2, but maybe in a little bit of time we'll have this for Android. After all, it is much newer than WinMo and will take some time for every one to figure everything out...I'm just very impatient...

The taskbar is a graphic inside you framework-res.apk a bunch of other stuff is in there as well. Thats why its not an easy change. Its not really hard its just not something that can be made flashable without having a copy of the framework-res.apk from your ROM. Attached is an example Vegasdenn made for me.

Thank you for your reply!! I know you released a ROM with Riptide's theme so your a good source of info on this. Remember I am a total Android noob so...how does Riptide achieve the clear taskbar in his to be flashable? I'm just thinking that since we have that, that we may be able to flash just the taskbar (was thinking that anyway untill you rained on our parade #-o)

So if I found that file from my ROM, and copied that image you just posted over my current file on my phone would that work..??

That would be a NO!!

I want this BAD myself but all the mods out there change too much. The theme I have now kicks @$$ and I would hate to change ANY part of it. Well, aside from the taskbar to transparent, obviously, and the lockscreen background to transparent like on 2.1!!! Hope someone figures this out! :)

Yea this is where it becomes a real pain in the butt ;)

Android like to "share" images from a main file source (2 files called framework and resources)

So if you change 1 image it might change for 15 different programs because with sharing, the apps will just reference images that are in the resources file for example. So to make things uniform Android whet with a monotone icon set (all grey with no color)

To make a taskbar transparent I just take the .png image file and make it 100% transparent then put it back (That is how I got started themeing)

So I am looking at my nice clear taskbar and went what the hell is with these black square icons (didn't notice they were black squares when the taskbar was black) The next thing you know I am making all the icons so they look right. About 5 thousand images later I am still doing it :P

The problem is that you can't pull 1 image from the phone... you have to pull an .apk file that contains all the images. So the taskbar is called statusbar_background.png and is in the framework-res.apk with a thousand other images.

I can't make a flashable zip file with just that one image because you have to have the other 1000+ images that go with the framework file or nothing will work, which is why themers have to create versions based upon the work they have done.

If you want just the clear taskbar and nothing else you can pull your own framework apk and replace the statusbar_background.png and then push the framework apk back to your phone..... just keep in mind that all your icons will be floating black boxes

Man that sounds $h!++y!!! Well I/we appreciate what you devs go through! You guys really make the experience alot more enjoyable with all these customizations.

With the thousand and one plus ideas we come up with we just have to come to the realization that EVERYTHING isn't possible! lol
