I need a good car mount!

Any suggestions? I looked at the official one from sprint and read some bad things about it. Can't mount SD card....etc. I would like to be able to charge my phone, mount the SD card and maybe be able to use the camera. Thanks.

I like the official one, but Sprint also has a universal one that is very nice IMHO. It squeezes from all 4 sides and holds very nicely. I would recommend checking it out.

I bought the Kensington car mount from Amazon after reading a review on xda. The mount is made for an iphone but works perfectly with the Evo (no case). The mount is only $23, holds the phone tight, swivels from portrait to landscape and comes with both a windshield and vent mount. I have only used the vent mount and can tell you it works very well. You might also want to check buy.com as a few weeks ago they were selling this mount for $10 shipped after rebate. For the price it can't be beat.

Thanks for the info......What is the cradle that holds onto the phone made of? Is it padded at all, or over time, will it scratch the sides of a naked Evo?

Thanks again!

Sorry. Can you explain what mounting the SD Card is?

I love my kensington mount. I have used both the vent and the windshield suction cup. I am using mine with the TPU case, and it fits perfectly. I like the vent mount because I can run the AC and cool the phone off when I am using GPS, bluetooth and on a phone call. I have had the temp go up to 114F on the windshield mount on a sunny day, so I started using the vent mount with the ac and it kept the phone cool.

LOL, give it another month when you have your heat on full blast;-)

Is the car mount only able to hold the naked phone? I have the htc silicone case, seeing if that will work.

Quite true. I don't think my wife and daughter would appreciate it.

"Why the hell is the AC on? It's 20 degrees outside..."

"Honey, I can't let my EVO overheat and underclock. I am trying to watch the slingbox and make a phone call. wait. what are you doing?"

Then comes the sound of the EVO flying out of the window...

I have not used the one from Sprint, but if it's like many of the adjustable ones found on eBay/Amazon, I'd be a little wary. The plastic toothed rails on these wears out quickly over time. You will find yourself having to tighten it more and more to keep the phone from popping out after going over bumps and eventually it will not latch completely. I bought multiple ones on eBay and Amazon with poor results. I'm sure if you use it once a month, it may last a year or two.

It would be nice if everything wasn't made in China these days. I had to settle for this:

SlipGrip Car Mount Holder 4 Sprint HTC EVO 4G Phone W/C - eBay (item 140424858147 end time Oct-05-10 12:09:31 PDT)

I haven't received it yet, but I've used one for my Touch Pro for about a year. It holds the phone securely with no worries about moving plastic parts wearing out. Like many of the car mounts, it's made of plastic and plastic becomes brittle in extreme temperatures.

To Remove thePhone, Just Push The Top Curved Tap while supporting the iphone from the top back and remove it.

um... :dontknow:

Piece of Velcro works for me. As long as I'm in the car, and have the phone stuck to it, it is not unsightly. Very inexpensive also.

It's for an EVO. If you don't have a good template for eBay listings when you sell the same product for multiple devices, then you get minor errors like this.

Anyways, I've been able to try it out. So far, it seems like a good car mount. It holds my EVO with a silicon case securely. Mounting/unmounting is effortless which is helpful when you need to keep one hand on the wheel. You don't need to crank on the plastic tab to remove it from the mount unlike the cheaper mounts on eBay, which eventually will lead to the tab breaking off.

My only complaint is the mount bounces around with the phone on there while going over small bumps, but that is expected with the gooseneck style mounts.

I would highly recommend this mount. 9/10

You mean ProClip Mounting SystemÂ*-Â*Device Holders and Dashboard Vehicle Mounts. Not at all cheap though.

Re: I need a good car mount!

I had one of the Sprint ones and was not too impressed... I found that the foam mounts would slide around a bit when the glue got warm... I drive an 18 wheeler and there's a lot of vibration so I have had to do quite a bit of testing on different mounts. I know it's expensive but Sprint and best Buy now carry a mount made by Griffin Technologies, I think they are actually made my HTC, specifically for the EVO. They're $60 but very cool. You plug your charger into the base of it and such... I have been using it for a few weeks now and I love it. http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/08/2...sprint-stores/

They don't have it on the Sprint website yet but they do have them in the stores.

Good luck

Edit: donatom3 1 month ago in reply to Jeffrey Tschiltsch

The SD card unmountable thing is actually not written out completely. The phone still sees the SD card you just can't set it up in mass storage mode, so if you have a stereo that can mount any usb mass storage it won't work with this dock. You will be able to listen to music through the evo through bluetooth a2dp or through the 3.5mm headset jack.

Re: I need a good car mount!

This is made for an Ipod, but I can vouch for the fact that it works amazingly for the Evo, even with the Otterbox commuter on it.

I was leary of it, but for 12 bucks, now 9.99, I thought I would give it a shot. It works. It even has a vent mount it comes with that works. I had a vent mount from schosche before that didn't work so well, so I was surprised.

I can say that it is worth a shot to try it out. I actually bought it based on a thread here and xda where members said it was a great car mount.

I have the Real HTC/SPRINT EVO car mount.. I have to remove it from the case to use it. Not a big deal since I have the SEDIO case and it just comes apart in 2 pieces really easy!

I just ordered the Kensington mount in anticipation of getting an EVO. I think it is the best option so far. I have a honda element and its windshield is FAR from the front of the dash, hope it works out for me.

well..... indeed it is! Only I choose this one because it was shipping from Memphis, and I am in in Nashville, so I will most likely see it monday morning on my desk :)

Although that Amazon link, 7.74+3.98 shipping was tempting! Ahwell...
