Car Mount Options

So I'm looking for car mount options which have:

* Option to switch between landscape and portrait
* Nothing to glue to the phone (prefer to "snap" phone into dock)
* No side-tension grips

Did some research, found 4 options. Hopefully this saves some of you some time.

Also wondering if anyone else has any experience with these mounts. It's actually cheapest to buy the dealextreme mount. I can't even buy the parts to build my own mount for $5 shipped.

The Exclusive Car Mount for the Evo should be out my the end of August...early september...I believe Sprint announced it when Froyo was released....I would wait for that one instead of something else....but thats just me.

OK, the first one you mentioned from Deal Extreme: Only fits a naked EVO. If you have any sort of case, any TPU, anything other then a bare naked Evo, it will not fit. Also, it's SUPER SNUG! like everytime I put the phone in or take it out it feels like I'm going to break it.

And the DIY just seems like too much DIY. Why pay good money only to hack something. Make a mistake and you are S.O.L.

Thanks for the feedback, Tony. I just have a screen protector on my case so that works perfectly for me. I intentionally avoided the clasp mounts because i didnt want to deal with them. The official one will probably have power/docking and i'm almost tempted to wait for it but it's probably also going to cost a grip.

I would say $49.99 at most. It will have dock and power for sure...that's what I have seen from pictures and some inside knowledge. It's a matter of when Sprint wants to release it. They had said the Dock and the HDMI dock were to be released on release day but for some reason Sprint pulled them. I did hear that the HDMI dock had issues with the resolution's early on...it would downsize to 480P instead of 720P...I'm guessing once they found that issue...they pulled the car dock to make sure it worked right before they released it.

From what I hear it should be to much longer.

Re: Car Mount Options

So the official car dock is out and it a) blocks the camera, b) has no gooseneck so can't be placed in all locations, and c) it's $60. Soooo not worth it to me. Plus some people are saying it puts the OS into car mode which prevents android from accessing the SD card. So much for music.

I ended up getting the dealextreme dock. So far so good. The gooseneck is VERY strong and the fit is super tight. Swivel function is perfect. I haven't noticed the paint coming off from the fit but i've only been using it for about a week. Suction cup is strong.

One great thing i didn't even think about was that there's a whole in the dock for the camera. You could potentially use your camera as a POV driving safety cameras (to have a record of accidents, at least those in front of you). Not sure if i'll ever use the cut out but it's a cool idea. For $5 it's a steal.

Go to http://www.proclipusa.com/default.as...22&d_cat=18252 . This is ProClip's website for their Evo mounts and car holders.

I've heard great things about proclip, but when you compare the $50-100 price to $5.50 at DX, it's not much of a comparison.
