Evo as main music player
I am retiring my iPod...however I now need new headphones. Mainly...motorcycle friendly headphones. I've browsed several forums but I trust our members to provide me their opinion.
What I need is a "in the ear" style headphone that also dampens the wind noise. I have a full face helmet so the headphone needs to be flush (cant stick out or it will be uncomfortable). What would be really cool is a headphone that has a mic that way I could actually receive and place calls. Any help?? |
Re: Evo as main music player
1. seems kinda dangerous dont you think? i'd personally like to hear the traffic around me to avoid them (at least on a bike)

Re: Evo as main music player
Nahh...Most bikers will attest that earplugs are a must. I've been riding for 30 plus years and with technology I'm really enjoying the music I've been missing. Plus you can purchase helmets now with bluetooth but I really need an in-ear solution.

Re: Evo as main music player
I use 15$ sony ear buds from best buy. They do a wonderful job at noise dampening in my helmet.
I will suggest purchasing a 3rd party media player. The stock one with the EVO sucks when you have anything over 50 songs in your library and like to use the random feature. |
Re: Evo as main music player
I have a pair of black sony ear buds. They where $30 from radio shack but after looking at several they looked to be the slimmest in ear. They come with a few buds so you can fit them in your ear better the base is ok and the sound goes loud. They do not hurt my ear's at all when on long rides. I mostly use them for my joy rides through the contry in the city I dont listen to music but either way its not a big deal.
Also I rarly listen to the music app, I mostly use pandora or fm radio. |

I not only keep them on me for music/noise cancellation, but general noise cancellation as well! Today @ work they were doing fire alarm testing during regular hours. W/O the ear buds in the alarm was seriously piercing. Passed with flying colors @ a Nascar race in Daytona as well. |
Re: Evo as main music player
I use a set of Shure earbuds (EC3 I think). But be careful, if you use the foam inserts and turn the music up to a moderate level, you won't hear anything from the outside. They work great on a half helmet too.
As far as a mic, there was a set of heaphones/mic from a company named Fox that had a throat mic and earbuds. Not sure how good it was, I never tried it. |

Re: Evo as main music player
i would like to say that blasting music in the car, and listening to music while operating a motorcycle are the same thing but they aren't.
but my choice would be the sony mdr ex700 ear buds. superb quality but they are pretty good at cancelling outside noise, so don't turn it up too loud! |

Like I tell everyone: if I go down, it's because someone was going for me! As for what I use for music is the motorola S9's. Because of the helmet I use it works PERFECTLY. I have easy access to the controls for tracks and volume. I've also been known to answer calls on my way home which means no one can hear over the wind noise. And that serves them right for calling me when they KNOW I'm riding home! :P |

Re: Evo as main music player
FYI I tried a mic- it doesn't work very well because with a full faced helmet it sounds like the mike is in your mouth. But I use shure e2c headphones and it's tricky getting your helmet on but it works. Don't get an in helmet headset that's wired- unless you buy an amplifier because it just cant get loud enough to hear anything when you are on the freeway.
Good luck. |
Re: Evo as main music player
cheap set of in-ear buds by sony works for me, but I am looking for "over the ear" type...
FYI if you ever went on highway with full face for more than 10 miles.... you would know what the ringing in the ear like ten hours AFTER you rode... I wish i could have a bluetooth head phones with wired power pack ( not an issue with EVO, since phone in my chest pocket, but issue when i have my MP3 player on my handle bar) ilber<- VFR 800A, wearing Arai corsair V-Hopkins replica |
Re: Evo as main music player

Re: Evo as main music player
Just got a pair from Zagg, they mold into your ear to cut out noise. Comes with mic and best of all it gets FM reception. They also offer a 30% coupon if you google a bit.
