Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
So i'm loving my Evo and i'm about to order the Seido extended battery. What i'm looking for is a desktop cradle that has a space to charge a spare battery as well as the phone. Has anyone seen anything like that? I've done some preliminary searches and i'm coming up empty-handed.
Any help's appreciated |

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
Anyone have those ebay cradles? Are they any good? I used to use a similar cradle with my old TP and it worked GREAT. Thinking about biting on this one too.

Ordered one of those ebay cradles, last one i had was for my TP also lol, i'll let u guys know when it comes

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
i actually already have the seidio battery charger in the picture above. But nothing beats a cradle for an always-charged phone that's readily available on your desk.

Saw this on ebay as well. I bought one when I had a palm treo pro, and it worked fine. Anyone have an update on this?

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
i read on one of the other evo forums that the ebay cradle (the more slanted one) didn't fit the device exactly and people were having trouble with it. ddark4eva, which one do you have?

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
Be adventurous, build it. I used an old phone.. made the handset into bluetooth, 5 port USB hub, extra battery charging and a USB dock for the phone.

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
You are way more creative and smarter about electronics than I . I just ordered a ebay cradle with 2 extra batteries for $24 shipped. I'll let you all know how it works out when I receive it.

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
I dont know about all that... This was built from the cable the phone came with, a 7 port powered usb hub, old TP2 cradle from ebay I got for under $10, old desk phone and a motorola h680 headset i think... Anyways, I like to mod hardware, suck at programming... But I encourage everyone to get high and try!

Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
Searched all over the internet for reviews of the ebay cradles and every forum says the same thing -- "i'm ordering it... i'll post a review when i get it."
Then nothing. I suppose that's good since if it was horrible people would post about it, but it's still unsettling. Only saw one review on the net and the guy said the dock damaged his micro USB port because it didn't line up correctly. Not sure about details though. Anyone here use the ebay docs(no- OEM, no- seidio) successfully? |

I was looking for the thread where i posted that i ordered it and will review it, and i guess i was a little blind because i wasn't able to. Since this one has been bumped up and i can see it now, a short review:
The fit of the extra battery slot is pretty good, but mine came with the prongs slightly bent inwards so I needed to bend it out a little more with a small screwdriver to get the tension properly back on to the terminals, after that it worked great. The slot where the phone sits is not a super tight fit, as a matter of fact all the weight seems to be resting on the usb port, and there isn't much of a tilt, which is guess is a good thing considering the usb port is the only thing that is holding it up so a steep lean would put too much stress on it. I got a innocase rugged shortly after it came and of course it wouldn't fit afterwards so i can't say much about whether or not the usb port will be damaged in any way after prolonged use. While it is not a tight fit, its still tight enough to not work even with a silicone sleeve. It WILL work with invisible shield though. The last part concerns the power connections. There is a micro usb port in the back that goes to the phone for sync and charge, and a wired-in usb plug that you can plug in to another usb port or a outlet adapter to charge the battery. My old cradles for TP1 and TP2 have their own AC power inputs with a small transformer that provides power for both the battery and the phone, reserving the usb port in the back for sync duties. On the ebay evo one though, you need to have both connected to seperate power sources. This means that if you want to use it to sync and charge the phone itself, you have to use an always-on usb port on your computer, or you have to unplug it and plug it in to another usb power source in order for it to charge with the computer off. Since i don't really use the phone charging part any more its not an annoyance, but while i did use it and wanted to sync, i found myself sometimes forgetting to switch the power and ended up with a low or dead phone in the morning. For the price, if you need a way to charge a second battery, i would just take in to consideration the power factor that i mentioned above. If you have or intend to use a case, then just drop a few more bucks and grab the seidio charger. |
Re: Desktop cradle that charges extra battery
That looks like the same dock I got (dock and 2 extra batteries for $22.99 shipped). I am very happy with it and it stays plugged into my laptop on top of my toolchest all day at work, while my phone is in an out of it throughout the day. My silicone case from BestBuy does fit in the dock while on the phone, but my eBay silicone case is too thick. I knew about the 2 power cords before buying and was fine with that. It does exactly what I want and expected it to do.
