Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
Yea, so im very VERY picky about what i put on my phone.. it needs to protect, it needs to have grip, it needs to be simple with no crazy designed and logos, it needs to be very low profile.
I came across the rocketfish gel/silicone case/skin for the EVO. Best buy, $20. Heckuva lot cheaper than the other options out there. Slipped it on and its amazingly perfect for my tastes. Rocketfish had another type of skin, but it had diagonal edges in the corners, this doesnt. Combined with my clarivue screen protector, i think my evo is well ready for ease of handling. Since the clarivue screen protector leaves a small gap on both sides of the glass (clarivue needs to address this size cut issue), this silicone skin covers that up which is great. PROS: Low profile, good grip, no crazy designs and colors/logos, snug fit, protects the camera. Not a hassle to take off. CONS: The power button and volume buttons are actually covered by the gel, so its very hard to press and get response from the buttons, my idea and suggestion would be to use an xacto knife and trim it out myself. Im pretty good with an xacto so this should be a nice touchup. Glossy silicone which will show scratches and wear. Matte flat wouldve been better for the rear. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ads/photo2.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...oads/photo.jpg |

Does this protector come in different colors?
|
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
i only saw black in this model, the matte finish rocketfish skins with the diagnals in the corners were different colors, red and purple i think i remember.

Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
i bought the black matte rocketfish with the diagnol corners, i took it off because it kept grabbing my pocket taking it out and putting it back in, kind of annoying. but as far as snugly fitting the device, and protecting it A+. I stuck with the re-branded seido hard case. I dropped my phone yesterday on a brick front porch, thank goodness for the screen protector and the hard case- no scratches.. wheww..

I've seen something similar on other phones and it looks nice, wish they had translucent colored ones though..

Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
they also come in blue and red in my area...

Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
I went to BB they didn't have any so I went to another one and bought it. Without trying it out before buying. In the car I installed it.
Here is my opinion; Initial impression, was it's nice but not as snug as I would have liked. Then I wanted to turn my phone on, pressing wouldn't work, pressing harder wouldn't work, so I had to use my nail into the covered power button area to click it on. Same with the volume. It looks nice, finish is cool. I didn't like the raised bezel, made it feel like a Mogul (6800). It also added bulk, because the edges weren't sloped in the same angle as the EVO's back. Drove back to the first place that didn't have any and returned it. Nice, but not for me, waiting on the Otterbox, or something like it.. -CC |
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
looks good, but that sucks it covers power and volume buttons... i use those a lot and i don't really care to cut my own holes.
how does this compare to the silicone case from the sprint store? |
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
They should have extended the buttons on the inside so it makes proper contact! It's hard to use the power button since it is almost flush with the case.

The comment was for the Seidio Active Limited case but I would imagine it should have the same effect on this case since they are both silicone covers. Give it a try and see how it works. Experiment and see as you may need to add an extra strip or two of tape to make it operate to your liking... The best part is, no cutting required!!! |

Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
I bought one of these at the same time as my EVO, and returned 2 day later. It was a bit "loose" , attracted a lot of lint, and did not work well with my holster (BB8830 holster with the flap cut off) I went and bought a bodyglove case from the Sprint Store and have not looked back. My only issue with the BG is that I have had to take off the case 1 time and it bent the very thin piece of plastic by the volume buttons. It now curves out slightly from the frame, leaving a "squishy" feel at the top.
I need to get it back for a swap out and will be more careful with opening the case in the future. |
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
ha i was comming back to report that ive returned the rockfish and was now trying out the body glove.... so far im liking the ridges on back but dont know how i feel about the opening around the volume and power buttons
would love to find a cover like the rockfish that covers majority of phone but actually makes contact w/the proper buttons |
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
Funny, because I really like it! I got the top/bottom two piece seidio the day of release and I was very happy with it. I saw the pix of this one and was like, hmmm... I liked the look of it, but was concerned about the button pushing. I took a peek at it at BB, but was hoping to find it cheaper elsewhere online. No luck, so I went back to BB and got it. I figured I could always return it if I hated it.
I like it a lot! I find the look and feel to be just what I want. I had intended on cutting out the slots for the power and volume buttons, but I have no problem using my nail to press them. Anyone else actually like it? |
Re: Rocketfish Silicone/Gel Case *Thumbs Up*
I like it as well. I bought it in matter black and have no issues pushing the power button. The first few times were tricky but once you realize exactly where to press it is simple. I use my finger, not finger tip or nail, just like I do without the case and get it first try every time. Perfect for me, though I did order a yellow silicone case off eBay as I am a little crazy about yellow, as you can see in my avatar.
