a class 2 will do the same thing in a phone as a class 4 or 6.

the 8gb that comes with it is a class 2

Sorry but that is not true. A class 6 is 3 times faster than a class 2. If makes a world of difference when coping a large file.

Hi, just wanted to add a bit of clarification. Class 2 is the min speed that pny/polaroid card posted on this thread is capable of achieving. But there seems to be a misunderstanding. That does not mean it is as good as a class 4.

There is another thread with a sandisk class 2 where the op posted his speed tests of that particular card that does not mean all cards perform the same.

As stated by sandisk the min listed speed should be considered when buying a card that will be used for recording streaming video as its play back quality will depend on it.

If that's your intended use class 4 or 6 as min is recommended.

My friend has noticed picture galleries and video galleries populating much faster on her class 6 vs her class 2 card. Not to mention most apps use the card for cache

Re: Which microSD 16GB should i get?

The card may start out the same if it is a Class 2 but once it begins to fragment it becomes worse and worse...the Class 2 indicates that once fully fragmented the min guaranteed speed is 2mb/sec, a class 4 would be 4mb/sec and class 6 would be 6mb/sec...

so can a Class 2 end up similar to a class 4 or 6, yes..but its a risk that you take....

to find out how well your card performs, do a speed test of like 100x for both small sizes and large sizes..by then you should be able to tell what effect fragmentation has on the card.

Your information is incorrect. I have tested (on the EVO and TP2) a Class 2 8gb Sandisk vs a Class 6 8gb Sandisk and the class 6 blew away the Class 2 hands down. File transfers were night and day different. ON A CELL PHONE!

Re: Which microSD 16GB should i get?

I agree with Gunflight. No matter which way you look at it, the phone does not really have any speed control over the SD Cards. Its all in the card. Camera, Phones, CPU's, Class 6 will always out perform a Class 2.

Re: Which microSD 16GB should i get?

With faster data transfer rates theres no doubt that a class 4 or 6 would work faster than a class 2. Regardless of the device.

Has anyone noticed a difference in the brand? I have liked sandisk but I'm not sure about the others.

This is why i'm soo torn. I can get a class 6 8gb on amazon for $20 or a class 6 16gb for $60. I just can't bring myself to buy another 8gb when I already have that but I figured the speed difference had to help anytime the phone needs to access the card for pictures, video, music, even cache that alot of programs use. Is $20 worth the speed jump from class 2 to class 6? I don't transfer much from a PC but hoping to increase speed of the gallery and when the phone reads the cache.

Re: Which microSD 16GB should i get?

You will really notice the speed difference when xfering files from your PC to the device and vice versa via data cable.

Re: Which microSD 16GB should i get?

it all depends on what you need the card for

storage = class2
speed = class6
