Asking for the benefits on roms for android or maybe roms in general?

Well I came from the vogue, diamond, and touch pro 2 and I am about to get the evo 3d and was wondering, what do roms in android give you that the stock rom doesn't and what are roms for in android because I have heard they all work the same?

Custom roms:
free wifi tether, remove bloat software, speed, overclocking, theming, customization, remove HTC spyware, etc etc

Stock roms:
none of the above

ROM is Literally stands for Read Only Memory, in this case referring to the phone's internal memory where your firmware/apps are stored. When people say they're flashing a new ROM, it means they are flashing a new version of the firmware onto their phone - the two terms are interchangeable.

A custom ROM (firmware released for the phone by anyone except for Huawei) might have performance tweaks, new features such as overclocking and so on.

There are also roms available that remove htc sense, others just tweek sense

Its just like the touch pro 2, if you ever flashed roms on that. I sure did

Be careful... I just flashed my first ROM, and now I have no wifi, no tether, etc... I wish I had never rooted now.

Ummm... He asked about rooting AND ROMS. I didn't have a single one of these issues two hours ago, so either ROOT, or the ROM did this.

Whoa..what's with the attitude man? Op asked for the benefits, not for someone complaining about something that's clearly user error! It's obviously not cause of root(unless you goofed something up) because tons of users are rooted w/out the problem! So that leaves the rom..has anyone else posted about those issue's in the rom's thread? (that's prolly where you should discuss this)

This is why I get an attitude. You come in and say it's clearly user error, but then ask if anyone else is having these issues. Yes, some others have had one or two of these issues...not all of them at once. I have re-flashed, re-DL'd the ROM, etc. Nothing has worked. If he doesn't know the benefits, he probably doesn't know the downsides either. I was just trying to help, then people come in talking like I'm doing something wrong. Was I going off in my post? Nope. What's the problem?

I do apologize for the attitude, though. I'm just sooo angry about this that I went straight into defense mode. The things I care most about don't work. I don't think I've ever been this agitated about my E3D. So far, I can only use 3G, and that is all. Tons more stuff is not working correctly, and now I'm having issues getting it into bootloader. It just stays off until I hit power (only). Blegh.

Anyway...sorry man.
