Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

I plan to leave the HTC Touch Pro 2 really soon. I can't stand it anymore. I was just goign to get the HTC EVO 4G, but since the 3D one came out, is it worth getting the 3D one? I don't really care for the 3D feature. I know it has a faster processor. What do you guys think?

You sound like you're really enjoying the new 3d EVO. Besides the 3D feature, can you tell me what else is better? I really want to make the change today. Can't stand the Windows HTC anymore.

dual core processor, and android is basically all that has to be said. it's faster and more user friendly than windows htc phones. definitely worth it.

Compared to the EVO 4G:
The new version of the SENSE is really nice! It has a dedicated camera button, more memory, more storage, faster processor.

Besides, the odds of EVO 3D getting the next version of the android OS (ice-cream-sandwich) are higher than the EVO 4G. Having said that, I'm pretty sure that the Dev community at xda/ppcg will have it available for the EVO 4G too.

I love the 3vo...Even more after we got s off...In my opinion, it beats the OG Evo in pretty much every way :)

You'll miss being able to make phone calls that suddenly disconnect if you are coming from the TP2. You'll probably frustrate your friends if you calls are garbled when calling with the EVO 3D.

Not everyone is experiencing it that posts on this site but everyone I know know dealing with an EVO 3D has reported it. I would definitely wait for the Galaxy SII so you can at least trade your EVO 3D in if you want to get a different flagship phone. I was travelling when my 30 days were up so I'm stuck with mine until the SII comes out and then I'll put mine up on craigslist unless HTC comes out with a fix for this phone as it is still pretty new.

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

I upgraded from the TP2 to the EVO 3D and I'm very happy with my upgrade so far. The only issue I'm having is slow 3G speeds in the area I live in, however I get very good speeds at work. I haven't experienced any dropped calls so far and the voice quality is on par with the TP2. If you have 4G service in your area, you will get 5-7 MB/sec downloads.

I too was skeptical. I came from the evo 4G. I'll give you the same advise I received here: you have 30 days to try it. But be warned, they do charge a $35.00 restocking fee if you return it. (at least in Denver)

I actually tried the Motorola Photon before this one and this is the better phone. The thing that makes this phone is the interface. But honestly, your only choices are between the Photon and this phone; all the other phones are outdated before you even buy them. And don't buy it for the 3D. Seriously, are you really going to be taking 3D photos for a practical reason, or simply for bragging rights?

EVO 3D all the way!!! Came from a HTC desire and absolutely love this phone... But Definetly s-off and. Root it... And get rid of rosie IMO.... I have mine stable overcloced at 1700 mhz amazingly fast... But imo the 3d camera sucks. But who cares.... That's not why I bought it anyway...

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

love my evo 3d, the speed is amazing. Had the EVO 4G prior. camera was higher res on the 4G but 3D is cool on the new one. Call volume seemed louder the 4G, but i can deal with it. I highly recommend the EVO 3D

As with all phones I buy, I recommend getting the extended battery. Seidio has a 4000mah battery for $75ish, its a bit pricey but id rather pay a little extra to be able to use my phone to is maximum potential than worry about it dying halfway through the day. With the extended battery I use everything to the max and only drop to about 40 at night. (7am - 10:30 / 11pm) heavy use: auto brightness, bluetooth, gps, wifi, use latitude throughout the day, lots of web use, some video chat, lots of pic/video taking and uploading (facebook, google +) music, occasional movie, trapster, facebook, twitter, news feeds, sprint protection app (set at 10 minutes), NPR audio feeds, gasbuddy, live wallpaper (for my photos), photo lockscreen...

I didn't think dropping to 40% was so bad, considering how much i use my phone and what I do with it. I personally have no complaints. I have a solar charger that I have the option to use when going for a hike in the woods or if i'm at the beach and of course my car charger is always available.

So you have a 4000mAH battery and only make it from 7am to 1030???

I have the stock battery and heavy use most of the day. I have to really TRY to hit 40. Usually I'm at around 45 ish from 530am - 930pm. Not to mention I have 0-1 bars of service while at work....

I do use Juice Defender (free version) and Startup Auditor (paid version), but it still sounds like something is sucking down your battery.

The only thing that sucks down my battery is using Google Maps and GPS for navigation. I'd be lucky to have a full battery last 2 hrs on navigation. Really odd....

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

I'm in exactly the same boat as the OP. I still have my TP2, and have absolutely loved it. Modded with several cabs, but always resisted any more than that. I'm an older user, more business oriented...and don't really want to perform any serious mods, but like to fiddle (not sure I will try rooting). If I leave the TP2 behind, I'll also incur Sprint's $10 surcharge for data (probably more like $15 with taxes). But I too am tired of WM, and lately the TP2 just feels so slow. So I'm looking at the Evo 3d, and liking what I'm seeing. My questions are: I read of many issues with phone reception, which is critical for me, and have no problems with my TP2. Am I going to regret this switch? Is it good "out of the box" or does it need mods? What about business use: connecting to my Outlook for contacts and calendar with Android? I know HTC has a patch for that, but has anyone tried it, and does it work? (I don't want to connect to my exchange server, because I don't want the constant streaming of emails). I hear of new phones this fall...should I wait? It seems that the 3d may be a little buggy?

Sorry I'm so long winded...appreciate any helpful comments.

I've switched from a TP2 to the Evo3D a week ago; the reception is as good as the TP2 in the area I live and work.
The phone is very responsive and snappy which I really like.
The only issue I found is with ActiveSync connection to my work exchange server when using Push notifications, but as far as you're concerned you can sync your calendar and contacts at work with the Evo3D.

There are other small bugs with the HTC/Android software which will probably be addressed in future updates.

I came from the touch pro 2 and I can tell you the reception on the 3d is NEVER as good as the htc pro2 NEVER! I constanly drop calls and roam in places where my tp2 would never had problems... also the 4g even on my supported area in PA, is not always available. Battery last about 8 hours with moderate use with all the options turn off (gps, bt, 4g) , Im really thinking of going to the PHOTON . Sense and bt 3.0 is making me think twice as BT works great in my car.

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

I remember all the excitement when the TP2 came out, and the threads were just buzzing. I don't see that kind of buzz here in the 3d threads. Sure there are those that love it, and those that have their problems with it. That's probably true of any phone. But the activity on the TP2 in it's day was fantastic.

Not seeing it for the 3d?

I still like my 4G better, the 3D camera just doesn't cut it to make it better for me.

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

The Evo 3d is much better than the 4g. Honestly the biggest improvement, besides the chipset, is the screen. The screen is so much better than the OG EVO. I honestly can't look at my supersonic's screen without thinking it looks washed out and awful. There is a noticeable difference between 'qHD' and WVGA -- and obviously the qHD screen takes the cake. The pentile screen on my friends' Photon looks awful compared -- and the Photon is using tegra 2, which is old technology considering tegra 3 is right around the corner. I have a few friends with the Evo3d and no one has the issues boe is describing. I haven't read anywhere on here/xda the issues boe is describing. Don't think of the 3d as a feature, think of it as a bonus -- I never use the camera so I don't care. I bought the 3d for the hardware upgrades, and it's a much better phone than the OG EVO. I was considering keeping my OG EVO, but honestly I don't think it's even worth the $175 I can get selling it on ebay. Smartphones have really evolved since last year. I would either buy the 3d now, or wait until December/January for the quad core phones to drop.

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

Wow, you really stuck it out with that Touch Pro 2, huh? :)

I upgraded from the Touch Pro2 when the EVO 4G came out then upgraded again when the EVO 3D came out... I think you will be completely happy either way you go (EVO 4G or EVO 3D) since you're coming from a slow WinMo device. That being said, the EVO 3D is a much better, faster device IMO and I'd never go back to the EVO 4G. 3D is just a bonus. If you plan to root and load up custom ROMs, then you'll be able to keep the EVO 4G up to date though.

I also recommend waiting another month to see if you might want to get the Epic 4G Touch (Sprint Galaxy S II). Then you can weigh all your options and make the best decision.

Re: Is the EVO 3D really worth it?

yup...and still really do like it. Been a WM user for several phones, and thought android was a toy when it first arrived. Don't like what I'm hearing about WM7, was tempted by all the buzz about the evo4g but couldn't part with my TP2. But now it's getting pretty long in the tooth, and the sluggishness is really getting to me...so I'm thinking about the evo3d. I'm just hesitant because it doesn't feel like the 3d is generating all that much buzz (aside from the 3d gimmick), and I've read it's just a stop gap for HTC until the next generation of phones come out. Had my hands on one in the store and liked the feel and the looks of it. I'll probably pop for it in the next few weeks...just had to do a hard reset again on my TP2!
