Ironically it will be done exactly right after everyone's 30 days are over...(in August)

not saying they won't do it..but why can't companies do things within the 30 days :/ (PS this goes for all companies)

I'm just happy they acknowledged us and gave us a date. I can wait until August/September for an unlocked bootloader.

Forgive the newbie question, but when they release the update, does that mean setting up everything on your phone from scratch? I can live with it if that is what it takes, I just thought I'd find out. I guess my question is more exactly when someone comes out with the root or whatever they call it that allows my phone to tether, will that require a reformat?

Thanks

Prolly not. You would only need to dump your data if you decide to install a custom ROM. Otherwise rooting will just grant you full access to the phone.

Thanks. I don't really store any data on my phone so that isn't a concern. I did spend quite a bit of time customizing and installing apps but I can live with that again provided it gives me the ability to tether.

don't really understand why unlocking the bootloader would take so long. it's a password.

I guess the key statement here is that you don't understand. In fact, none of us do. HTC needs to do this right and not brick devices in the process. If they need a month, so be it.

Maybe they need time to figure out the password?

It depends on what they are doing in that 1+ months. There is speculation that HTC may use this time to add things like a watermark. Personally I don't think is should take that long either and this timeframe has me concerned we may see things in the "unlock" that we may not like.

I have my reserves to about what else they could specifically be adding or locking out in this update... maybe making some apps or customizations incompatible while still giving us the promised unlocked bootloader... still good news none the less and a move in the right direction..... now the waiting begins.........AGAIN

I agree 100%. If I wasn't in love with my 3d I would have returned it. But even without root this phone is awesome. So I'll be patient n wait. Plus in a year I'll be able to upgrade again thanks to sprint premier.

Huge step in the right direction for HTC. It gives me some confidence that if I decide to move back to HTC when I upgrade that I won't get hung out by the manufacture.

I've been with Sprint for 13 years. My understanding was that the 10+ years Premier Gold plan would get you an annual upgrade. Guess I'll need to check it out further.

You're correct. Over 10+ years, and/or having a $169.99 /mo plan or higher qualifies you for Premier Gold. Anything under those 2 stipulations, & it's only Premier Silver...which doesn't really help any of us with sh!t anymore!! I been with them for 8+ yrs, & had my annual upgrade taken away in march when I would have qualified for one in June.
