Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

Hello,

There are a few reservations about why not to get this phone and it may be that I need some clarification. Please help.

Issues:

1. No root (at least one that sticks) I believe htc is the cause.

2. Only a 5 megapixel dual camera

3. I love my kickstand

4. lots of issues in this forum about it

5. may come out with a white on in a bit

I really want to get this phone, but only if I can make this beast of a phone the beast of a phone my Evo 4g is..

Re: Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

seems like your answered you questions imo, im sure white will come out like evo did and unlocker will be out soon but cameras are not gonna change or kickstand and i 100% agree there are way too many issues popping up every day. i have a evo and nothing about ev3d excites me except 1.8 overclock speeds. bottomline is you got 30days to try it so maybe do that.

hmm I find 5 megapixels to be quite enough for photo taking, otherwise u get photos that are the size of .wma files. why get it in white? black is much more sophisticated IMO.

Re: Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

1. Agree about the HTC unlocking
2. Camera - you could have a 100 megapixel camera phone- it still won't take a picture as good as a 3 megapixel camera with a bigger lens.
3. Not much you can do about the kickstand unless you are willing to get or make a case with a kickstand.
4. I'm not going to defend or deny the issues. I'm seeing them. Hopefully many will go away with an update but I'm concerned the battery can't be fixed with just firmware.
5. If white is that important you might want to wait for someone to make one or bring it to a professional paint shop. On the plus side, people are complaining the paint is chipping on this model anyways so the color may not be that important.

Not sure how megapixel is always translated into better picture. Anyway the EVO3D takes a better date light picture than the OG EVO. It's CCD seems to be very good.

Just like any other phone release there will always be issues.......Period!!!!!! Having said that, the evo 3d owns the original evo 4g in every conceivable way, it's not even close.

Seriously, I was shocked because I wasn't expecting to think that.

Its well worth it. No buyer's remorse here.

(OT: Oh wow, its been a full year since I've posted here.)

1) Non-issue because it will be here in time.
2) Doesn't matter if it's 8 or 5 megapixel if the camera sensors suck. If cameras are that important to you, you shouldn't be looking at a phone from HTC. Samsung does a much better job.
3) No kickstand is a huge blow for those who would use one a lot. You can actually make one out of dollar bill or buy one online that you can fold and put in your wallet. I'm no fan of kickstands, mine broke with regular use on the EVO 4G and was left propped open at all times - annoying.
4) There were a ton of issues for the EVO 4G as well - overheating, stuck pixels, different types of screens, kickstands breaking, light leakage from the bottom, crack by power button, battery door wouldnt close correctly near the top, etc. - yet, the phone was a hit and we all loved it.
5) Not sure you can qualify this as an issue. EVO 4g didn't come in white for a while after the inital launch. And honestly, white phones/tablets are overrated imo. Most of them aren't even white... they're half white (on the back) and that looks incomplete like an open Oreo cookie. I also think white often makes the device look cheaper because they have to use shiny plastic. If you really want, you can turn the EVO 3D white with a little creativity ( WHITE EVO 3D [lot of pics] self-made - xda-developers ) or use a case.

Device isn't perfect, but I wouldn't want to go back to the EVO 4G. 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, more ram, higher resolution display, nifty 3D features rock. To each their own ;) . If you don't get the E3D, you should consider Sprint's Galaxy S II whenever that finally makes it to market.

Re: Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

Hey, I had the evo 4g with all the bells and whistles! It was the best phone I ever had until I got the evo 3d. The 3d is fantastic. It seems the only people that say to wait are the people that still own the evo 4g, like they are trying to justify not getting it themself. Everyone with a 3d evo says to upgrade. I have never had to reset the phone, i think the 3d is awesome, and its blazing fast with stock. A permanent root will come real quick, the phone has only been out for a few weeks. I say go get your 3d now as every day you wait is another one you will regret once you get it. The kickstand is disappointing but they do have a case out with a kickstand built in. ike they are trying to justify not getting it. Your wasting your time, go pick it up now and sell your evo on ebay or craigslist and you will get the phone for basically free if you contract is up!! I ended up making 100 dollars on the deal with the 70 credit from sprint!

I really didn't have any questions about getting it. I played with it in the store and decided not to get it because the only things I could see with the phone is that it is not white, no kickstand, had a faster processor (prob sure for the need for handling the rom and 3d). My contract is up. I just didn't want to get a phone that imo only has a few differences. I'm not bashing the phone or the people that own the phone. Just not for me at this time. To each his/her own.

As I do respect your strong emotions about this phone, I do not agree with you at this moment. I just don't see myself using this phone like I use my EVO 1st gen. Only because I can't at the moment. I am also aware that MY feelings may change in the pretty near future. I'm am not here to stress a point or argue.

wow first time seeing someone not want to get a phone because of its color (colorism?). I've seen it in the world of plush but not in the world of electronics.

No, not "colorism" just preference. There were other issues as well.

Regardless of the other issues, if this phone came in white you would have bought it already.

nasa1303 07-10-2011 09:06 PM

I went from my EVO 4G of 7 months to the 3D. It is totally a better phone. I agree with majority. All phone models suffer from buggy/problem batches. Mine has run great other than once or twice which reboot fixed. HTC kickstand case looks kick ass. When they can keep them in stick I will be getting one. Camera like others say, its a phone. I don't see any downgrade in pics I have taken.

You wanted help from other forum members to help you rationalize why you should get the phone and your first two objections when you played with it was that it's not white and it doesn't have a kickstand? So far it seems like all the responses say that the evo 3d is awesome. But to each is own, I loved my evo 4g and it will go down as the phone that really was a game changer but the 3d is a huge improvement in every single category and as I sit here playing with my friends evo 4g running a custom vanilla rom its no way near as smooth and crisp as the 3d's stock rom.

No brainer now. Get it. It's officially the best phone on the planet now that we have the backing of our mfg HTC. Great news to end an awesome weekend. #HTCFTW!

Re: Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

Ok I don't see the point of this at all. The only issue you seem to have is the phone is not white, if that is your preference so be it but I believe someone posted the link of another user making theirs white. Your other issues have been answered, htc has a case with a kickstand, I have always felt that a camera on a phone is for play or emergencies during a car accident, need real good pics by a real camera. I have read issues others are having yet I'm lucky to not have had one issue besides we are on Sprint you have 30 days. I've read people have issues take theirs back got a new one and not had another issue. Mass produced phone like anything else mass produce you will get some bad ones. Again instead of the list of things you talked about look at how you use your Evo now get the 3D for 30 days and see if you can do the same things with the 3d that you do with your EVO and then make a decision.

Ok, to clear up the confusion the color nor the kickstand are dealmakers for me.

Considering your request/experience..here is what I suggest..wait till August when HTC will unlock the phone..or untill devs accomplish S-OFF..then get the phone for 30 days and see how it is..within those 30 days there will be other such as Motorola Photon and ETC..by end of 30 days try them all out..see which you like best and stay with it..if you don't like any just return it within that 30 days and wait for the next big thing...

The big question boils down to..what do you use your phone for?

Re: Help with rationalizing why to get this phone

I looked at the phone's specs and I personally do not see much differences between the First Gen evo and the 3D to switch. Of course, this is a newer model. However, I do not believe the very few "upgrades" (if I can even call them that) are worth the switch.

If one must get a new phone, then it's reasonable to get the 3G. Otherwise, I say stick to the original Evo 4G. That's my opinion.

Regarding the OP's original concerns. Based on the issues listed, I see no point for you to get the 3G. Stick with the current Evo.

Haha. Thx Nasa. It's good to be back.

Oh and to the OP. I'm sure it won't be long before we'll be able to buy a white htc back cover to replace the black one.
