POP E-mail Not Checking Automatically

I used to have this same problem with the EVO 4G and was using K-9 mail for a while. Now the issue has returned with the EVO 3D. The issue is the stock e-mail client does not go out to check for new mail by itself. I have 3 mail accounts that all do the same thing. If I go into the mailbox it will do a sync but only if I go into it. It should sync by itself and give me a notification of new mail but it doesn't when the phone is idle. Like I said I had the same issue on the EVO and it looks like it was fixed because I went back to the stock client on that phone and no longer had the problem. However now that I have the EVO 3D the problem has returned. Just want to know if anyone else has this issue as I might have to go back to K-9 mail.
