Facebook Contact Sync

Ok so I have an issue with the facebook syncing. I'm gonna start by saying I don't know squat about android since I've been on WinMo for so long. I don't want to download fb contact phone numbers, but do want to sync pictures and updates. In the people app, I can hide them from view, but not from the phone dialer (hit phone and start typing a name). Worse, even though I have a contact linked, my cars bluetooth is downloading the number for each (fb & exchange) So many of them are duplicated.

I found this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=123683 but don't know if this is an facebook/android issue or specific to Evo/3D. And that's an old thread with no resolution so I thought I'd start a new one.

Goto contacts and click menu > view.

Deselect Facebook for HTC sense.

To get Facebook pics, make sure that when android prompts you to link contacts, you link them.

Thanks but that's already unchecked. The numbers don't show up in the 'people' list, they show up when you start typing in the phone pad (I prefer to find contacts that way) and also when using my car's bluetooth list.

You should unchecked the Facebook contact sync completely in the settings. Then you can link contacts you have with Facebook which will pull in pictures and updates. This is how I've done mine.

Once you already have duplicates you'll probably have to go through and delete the dups :/

This may sound crazy but try this.

1. Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications...choose facebook and uninstall

2. Menu>Settings>Account & Sync...choose Facebook for HTC Sense and remove account or accounts.

3. Go to market and re-download the Facebook app, sign in and then choose to Sync with Existing Contacts.

Hopefully that takes care of your problem

I took another look at it and I think edizzle is right. This is probably the only way.

Tried that too. Doing this doesn't download all my friends, but it still downloads the phone numbers from friends I have. So I'm still getting duplicated phone numbers. I'm on exchange so phone numbers get saved (xxx) xxx-xxxx and facebook saves +1xxxxxxxxxx. For whatever reason my phone thinks they're different numbers and lists them twice.

So far I think draghn's method is the only way, but it's quite a pain when you have a lot of contacts. Hopefully, Android isn't like WinMo and I don't have to ever hard reset.
