From what I understand, it is part of your normal voice service. If you wanted to add the text transcriber service, that is extra, don't quote me, but I think it is $2.99 per month, but free for 30 days I believe. The text transcriber service takes a voicemail and "tries hard" to convert the voice to text that displays in your visual voicemail program, it will not send you a text message to your phones messaging program of the voicemail just to be clear.

After researching online, I could not find a solution to the problem addressed by this topic. So I called Sprint and a wonderful Rep had an email telling her how to fix it.

This is what we did:
1. Menu - Settings - System Updates - Update profile.
2. Reboot the phone.
3. Locate and launch the Voicemail app.
4. Menu - Compose
5. In the To field type activate@vvm.sprint.com
6. Touch the red Record button - wait a couple seconds and click the Record button again.
7. Click the Send button.

Wait a couple of minutes at most and all of your voicemails will be rerouted and show up in the Visual Voice Mail app window.

What they told you might work to resolve some other issue with Visual VM not working, but the main jist of this thread was to address the issue of Visual VM not working when users have Handcent Texting setup as the Default Mail Program.

If you have Handcent, and you have the parameters of the program setup to allow Handcent to be your default Text Program, it will continue to mess up your Visual Voicemail.

Handcent is my default messaging app and the above steps resolved the issue in addition to allowing me to use Handcent and Visual Voice Mail.

That is interesting. Just to be clear, you have checkmarked to setting in in Handcent to be your default text message program?

I would be curious to know if the visual voicemail continues to work for you. I did the same instructions that Sprint told you to do and it only worked temporarily. I have not tried it since. Maybe Handcent updated their program. I will have to give it another go.

I just enabled Handcent as my default sms and mms program, left myself a Voicemail and i received a text message from Sprint, telling me to call into my voicemail number to listen to my voicemail. I then disabled Handcent as my default sms and mms program, left myself a voicemail and then I received a visual voicemail for both my test messages. I must just be unlucky.

I wanted to also mention that I still use Handcent with no problem, I just cannot turn on to handcent feature in the settings where it allows it to be the default sms and mms program.
