Swype trace not working
 

Hello,

So all of a sudden when I try to use Swype, I can't see where it is tracing. It will still work, I would just like to know where my finger is actually going. I tried rebooting, worked once but now it seems to be a permanent problem. Do I have to hard reset? Thanks

load the HTC keyboard then the swype one. it should fix the problem.

I have the same problem. Swype is kind of terrible now.

I've had the same issue; I don't know but this version of swype seems worst then the beta :(

You can enable "trace" for the stock HTC keyboard and it does the same thing, but better in this case IMO. You can also pick your trace color as well.

HTC trace has trouble recognizing new word tracing immediately after you use single or 2 letter words like 'i' or 'it'.

you guys should also try swiftkey.

when the phone goes into power saving mode, the trace f's up for some reason. if you reboot, it'll be fixed.

I don't use power saving mode so I don't seem to have that issue. Does it not work at all or is it just buggy?

It's funny - some times it changes to spanish or something not english - if I switch to spanish then english it fixes...strange...hopefully HTC or Android release a mini fix for these isues.

Same.. mine always switches to spanish.

EDIT: Does anyone know a way to uninstall swype using the temp root? i have access to the swype beta and want to install that instead however i can't install over the old version.. i've tried root uninstaller and manually deleting the swype.apk from system/app but it just comes back..

It's actually both now. I had it happen to me again, where I lost the trace. So i tried my old trick and the other keyboard option was also messed up (the KB didn't change to symbols). So I rebooted and set the options to trace again. It's working now.

Also, worth noting, I have turned off power saving options, all of them, and yet it still happened once the battery ran low

got it figured out for anyone with swype beta access..

delele the swype.apk in system app.
delete the folder /data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod
delete the swype file in data/dalvik.. the name will contain the word swype. you can search for it.
delete the swype file in /system/lib (again the file will contain the word swype do a search) then you can install the beta and it works.

I figured this one out. It's the flippin world key next to the space bar!!!! What possible reason would they want to put a quick change language button on a Swype keyboard????
Check your button and see if it is marked "EN" or "ES" espanol!! Touch it once to switch it back to English and "voila" OK that's French but whatever.

Thanks, yeah I have no idea why this is not able to be disabled.

I thought I was the only one having this problem with swype. I was about to do a hard reset. I hope they fix this issue. The best solution for me was to go into manage applications and erase the data from swype. So far it hasn't happened again.

yeah the previous version of changing languages was much better... now i constantly hit the freakin language button and it pisses me off!
