Question about Google Voice/Visual Voicemail
Is anyone else using Google Voice (GV) over the stock visual voice mail? It has taken me awhile to get GV set just the way I want it to work. Really...the only benefit right now to my setup is the free text conversion offered by Google. A downside though is that by having it setup my text messages are now lagging behind a few seconds after they were actually sent.
Anyway...the way I have it setup is I turned off notifications in the GV app and I now get notified of voice mails by text. I also have GV forward my texts to my phone. So as a result, I get texts to my phone through the native app, visual voice mail via google which I can now check on line, and voice messages converted to text and sent to my phone in a text (which thus notifies me of a new VM). Anyone find anything that works "better" or can anyone think of any flaws in my plans here lol. |
Re: Question about Google Voice/Visual Voicemail
I had an addendum question to the original posed. Is it possible to use Visual Voicemail to see/playback the audio of messages from the built in Voicemail app and have google voice text/email me the voice to text transcription? I had a TP2 before with Google voice so this is new to me with a native android device...
or is this the setup the original poster has, if so, can you explain how? |
Re: Question about Google Voice/Visual Voicemail
I do not use the native visual voicemail at all right now. In fact, I believe that if you switch to GV you lose all of your currently saved voice messages (I can't remember if that is correct or not).
Really the way I have it set up now, the only time I have to open GV is when I go to play a message. I don't get notified by the app itself of a new message (on a side note: I would think this would help with performance and battery life not having the program running in the background and also using background data). I do get notified when I have a new voicemail though because I get it converted to a text message and sent to me. |
